Many of you have heard that Goldeneye was set to make its return on the Xbox Live Arcae later this year. Well I'm sorry to report that the project has been cancelled 'at the behest of Nintendo'.

Apparently Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime was completely behind the project but Satoru Iwata basically said that 'under no circumstance would they allow the game to be released on any other console'.

Now you might be thinking 'Hey! It isn't Nintendo's call! Activision owns the rights to it no them!'. Well you'd be right. But apparently Activision was afraid of damaging its relationship with teh Big N so they quickly cancelled the project at Nintendo's request.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Why couldn't they do a joint release on XBLA and the VC?

Iwata go jump off a bridge.
well it is in Nintendo's best interest to keep games like these off competitor's consoles. If you were Iwata, you'd have done the same thing.

as long as it comes to the VC I wouldn't really mind. But if they keep it from ever being released then Nintendo just made one of the stupidest mistakes of their lives.
If it came on the vc atleast I wouldn't mind. But stopping it from going on any console sucks big time.
Its still on the N64 :p
assuming you can find a working copy and a 64...
Goldeneye 64 on the Nintendo 64 is still one of the best games every made (IMO). I would have liked seeing what could have been done to this classic on XBLA, because I'm sure players would have seen some amazing things like online multiplayer.
Meh. Sucks but no biggie. I have a working 64 and a working copy of the game and working controls, so I'm set.

I couldn't agree more.

Congratulations Iwata, you've ruined it for everyone. Nintendo could have taken a slice of the profits, but I guess they thought that idea wasn't arrogant or arbitrary enough.
Wow... people are taking news of no remake for Goldeneye hard... can't you just play any number of the 360's FPS games with online multiplayer? Am honestly curious... would a remake of this game been that good?

I still have a working copy of the original, so I'm unaffected

Iwata makes me laugh.
Eh, Microsoft didn't want Halo on the DS.. It's just business.

Goldeneye 007 was one of those games that is still amazing even though technology has advanced a long ways since the games release. Very few other games can make that claim. I think the game could have looked a little more polished on XBLA, but the big plus could have been online multiplayer against your friends.

i have a a360 and a working copy w/ conmtrols also like lmx and i got to say we whipped it out a couple of weeks ago it wasnt that immpressive. IMHO it would have been way better on the 360 wtih dual analog.
just play one of the other countless FPS avaliable on the 360...why does it have to be Goldeneye?

Exactly, aren't shooters what Xbox is known for? Why not try something different. I know Goldeneye is the best shooter ever, but that's only true if you don't ever play another shooter.

Your argument works both ways.

Just because their are lots of shooters doesn't mean that people don't want a different experience.

And exactly, if there are so many shooters on the 360, then wouldn't that mean that the shooter fans would want more?

I'm not too bothered though, I think it would have been nice to have this on XBLA and in all honesty I think Iwata is an idiot for not letting it be released. Oh well, maybe one day we'll see the game released.
Iwata is keeping Nitnendo's interests at heart. And hey, just play the original. I fear a retooled version would have sucked anyway. Look how Rare screwed up their Perfect Dark sequel.

At any rate, this is lame. But not terribly lame. Plus I like seeing Iwata stick to gamers when its not me.

Look at that! I found one right under my TV! ...and now I'm playing Perfect Dark! Toungue

Am I weird because I think Perfect Dark was better than GoldenEye?
