Released on February 28, the new color PSP was likely responsible for the boost in PSP sales, which saw it outsell its nearest competitor, Nintendo’s Wii, by almost 10,000 units, and its main competitor, the DS, by more than 20,000 units.

Sales of the other consoles were all pretty much the same as last week. Wii, DS, PS2 and 360 sales were marginally up, while PS3 sales fell slightly during the week ended March 2.

PSP – 73,706
Wii – 64,535
Nintendo DS - 51,922
PlayStation 3 - 13,520
PlayStation 2 - 10,986
Xbox 360 - 2,282

New RPG out in Japan thats not Crisis Core? Or is Crisis Core still making the PSP?
If you read the article above you'll see that they think it's the new color PSP that's selling so well.
Whats the new color out?

I never knew colors moved handhelds so well.
I belive it's a mint green.
Mint green? Sounds hideous.
There are tons of colors over here. Some of them nice and some of them are not so nice.
Yeah, I just think there must have been something more to encourage PSP's to move off Japanese shelves than an ugly Mint Green colour.
I'm not exactly sure, but I guess it's possible that the color has some significant to them? The above source wasn't the only site talking about it was the color that made it sell.

I will admit that I wouldn't pick up a system simply because of a color and definitely not mint green, but to each their own.
Really? I think they only sell black ones and white ones in the UK. And mint green...I agree with lm-x; what a hideous colour!

Anyway, I didn't expect the PSP to beat the Wii's sales. God, the Japanese are such haters of the 360...I don't get why! Lol.
I think it goes all the way back to the Xbox, and the Japanese didn't think Microsoft was giving them the type of games they wanted.
