I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd tell you guys what's up...
The Virginia Scholastic Chess Association (VSCA) hosted the state scholastic chess tournament, which took place March 8-9 (A few days ago.) I participated (as did 664 other kids), and won four games out of six (most kids did not do that, however.). The final result was that I ended up in a 29-way tie for 19th (really!) in the K-8 (middle school) section, the tiebreakers placing me at 28th.
It was very cool to walk into a gymnasium with 350+ chessboards, though losing to a 9-year-old chess prodigy was not cool at all.
Overall, it was a very interesting experience, and I had lots of fun.
(If you want to look at the results, look no farther than here.)
When I got home, I recieved a message from a friend, saying he picked up my medal (everyone tied for 20th gets a medal), because I didn't stay for the awards ceremony (I had to get to Church on time). So he told me that he'd give it to me next time we see each other again.
Then, after waking up at 5:45 two mornings in a row, I have get up early AGAIN to go to the orthodontist to get my braces tightened (which is no longer painful, thankfully).
I was awake enough to realize that Brawl came out that day, however, and urged my mom to take me to Hollywood.
When I got home from renting Brawl, I ran to the TV, jammed in the disc, and hopped around excitedly while it loaded.
All right, I exaggerated slightly; I wouldn't do that sort of thing to the "sacred" Brawl disc.
Then the 20-year-old TV shut down.
I was so angry.
I had to find where the small TV was (turned up in the attic), and play on that one. (I'll take a picture of just how small it is, eventually.)
I'm loving Brawl so far, but I can hardly read the words on the screen. Hahaha!
I don't know if I'm ready for the next week.
