I was wondering if anyone on here has tried both the wireless and direct ethernet way to download updates onto their PS3. Next week we'll be seeing the latest update with moves us to BD-live 2.0 and I'm wonder if a connection with an ethernet jack will work better. Doing this will be a little tough since my computer and everything else is quite a ways from my PS3, but if I know it will be quicker, then I'll try it.
Ethernet will be faster if you've got an Internet connection faster than 40Mbps, but if you don't then wireless will be fine.
Is there a significant difference in speeds between wired and wireless?
current home Wireless tech has a max of about 125Mbps with the average being 54Mbps

current home Wired network tech has a max of 2Gbps (duplexed Gigabit ethernet) with the PS3 running at 100Mbps
Seems like it would be faster to download from a PC using DAP and then transferring it but not sure though.
the updates only smallish so either way will be fine, it'll probably take longer to run the update then to download it, if it's anything liek the psp updates
Mine generally don't take hardly anytime to run once it's downloaded. The download times takes the longest for me, and that's why I asked the question. If you think about it, the PSP has far less internal memory for updates compared to the PS3, so you have to imagine that the PS3 updates can/will be much larger, especially for what we're getting next week.
Yeah, the updating part (installing) goes by rather quickly, it's the downloading part that tends to be a bit slower, especially when everyone is downloading it.
