Over a year since the Wii's release and Nintendo fans out there are still having trouble getting their hands on one of the consoles. The good thing for those of you out there still trying to get hold of a Wii is that you are not alone. Unfortunately though, it isn't going to get much easier trying to get one in the upcoming months. Bad times.

GameStop earlier this week had pointed out the shortage whilst in a conference call to discuss its annual sale results. Executives from the company, during the call, stated that even though most of the consoles are in decent supply at the moment, the Wii could be hard to get hold of for as long as the next six months.

Considering that the Wii was released at the very end of 2006, I think it's hard to believe that the console is holding a chase for gamers to try and get one. Nintendo has had enough time to respond to the high demand for the console, therefore bring in more manufacturing facilities. But have they done that? Well, it doesn't seem that way due to the never ending shortages. The Wii has been outselling both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 near enough every month, so Nintendo is already pushing to make as many consoles as possible.

There should be no reason for the Wii being out of stock still. Obviously, the hype for the Wii caught Nintendo off guard, but surely the high demand for the console has kicked in by now? I don't know, but say if a shopper comes in to buy a Wii and there appears to be none in stock, the customer could buy a 360 or PS3 instead. This ends up with Nintendo losing out on a potential customer. So if Nintendo want to keep up with their customers, they are going to have to make more Wii's and fast!

well I doubt someone coming into a store with their mind set on buying a Wii would buy a 360/PS3 if they found out there weren't any Wiis in stock. Nintendo is making 1.8 million units per month, they've stated that quite a few times, which is much higher rate than the PS3 and 360. and another thing to think about would be common sense, I mean producing a small amount of consoles each month to make it seem like its sold out everywhere to produce hype worked right when it was released, but that type of hype died a long time ago so I doubt Nintendo would still use that strategy (thats if they even did in the first place) to continue to try and hype their console.
my brother barely got mine back June 08'

and somewhere around sept. i had to send in the defective infected wii i had in to my circuit city warranty i had on it...

got back a damn gift card for another one instead of a wii itself D:

i just got a new one but it took 7 months, and i barely got it though

gamestop says about another 6 months they will be short :l
I think Nintendo is holding back now. They had mentioned stepping up production such a long time ago and I know a lot of people want the Wii but C'mon! When stores have been getting shipments recently they have been very few. There was mention that many Wiis were being sent over to Japan to help with Brawl but now North America has Brawl too! I'm wondering if Nintendo is just trying to show how much the Wii is wanted.
Xbox/PS3 purchases went up over xmas because people bought their old consoles in for trade-in and when we told them that wiis were out of stock, they were like 'hmm, get me a PS3/Xbox, then'

same thing with gifters. 'Do you have the Wii in stock?' 'no' 'oh, well I've got to get them something for xmas, get me a PS3'
In the long run that's not good for Nintendo, but there will still be the people still want a Wii even though they bought another console.
Well...it is selling insanely well. It's not like Nintendo has a tree that grows Wii's...it'll take awhile to make them. Plus shipping out 1.8 million Wii's a month is impressive. Also, theres tons of Wii's in stock here, I suppose it depends on where you live as well.
