So I was browsing ye old imdb when I come across Joseph Gordan Levitt (of 3rd Rock from the Sun and 10 things I Hate About You fame). Low and behold, he's slated to play Cobra Commander in the new live action GI Joe movie coming out next year! Now I'm not keen on that casting, but at least I found another movie to keep on my radar.
But that wasn't the biggest thing I saw on his biopage.. I looked up a tad further and saw Akira (2009) rumored. Clicking on it, apparently they are making a 2 part movie based on the Akira manga, and it's supposedly live action. Also rumored to be starring, and here's the kicker, is Leo DiCaprio. Crazy. Not sure if he'll be Kaneda or someone closer to his age, but this could go just about any way. Here's hoping it stays dark, get's a huge budget and the best CG hollywood can buy. I'm not keen on Levitt playing Tetsuo, but I'll reserve judgement til I see something (much like Ledger as the Joker).
With Tim Robbin's rumored production of 1984 also in the works, '09 could be a year of great movies (or huge disappointment). Anyone know of anything else in the works?

1984 will be killer, and it better have an "R" rating. The book was amazing, and the original movie was blah. Hopefully Tim Robbin's will do it right this time. With today's special effects and CGI's there's no reason why he can't.

An R rating isn't even necessary. From what I remember in the book, all the "violence" is behind closed doors, and most of what is told is done so in a PG-13 way. I don't recall much cursing, and any sexual material could easily be shot in a PG-13 way without detracting from the movie.
As easy as the story is to tell, it'll be hard to do the book justice. It will take one heck of an effort to pull off, and the main actors/resses better be damn good (if not Tim Robbins). I only hope they don't try to put their own "spin" on the story or change the setting to reflect America.

i havent seen any since the 1st one so i dont know, i heard 2 was good, bought it and just havent watched, will probably watch 3 sometime after that,
i like comic book movies so i have to eventually watch em all

I wouldn't expect Transformers 2 til 2010, but that's if Bay puts time and effort into it. If its a cash-in sequel then yeah, next year will be its release date.
well the star wars live action TV series got delayed until 2010, so you can scratch that off the '09 list
