One very interesting patent has recently been reissued concerning Nintendo and what seems to be an instant messaging service for the Nintendo Wii. Although this could of already been scrapped or forgotten, you can't deny that a messaging service sounds pretty exciting. Here below is a small chunk of the patent which explains what Nintendo may have been planning all along.
Title: Messaging service for video game systems with buddy list that displays game being played
Description: A messaging system includes a web server computer and at least two video game systems. Each game system is configured to connect to the web server computer via the Internet and to communicate status data indicative of an activity engaged in by a user thereof. The web server computer generates a session file indicative of user status and the status of each of two or persons on a buddy list of the user."
Does anyone really care for a messaging system? Could it match up to the services available on the Xbox 360? Opinions please!

Cool, sounds interesting. Hope they follow through with this patent.
You failed to mention that this patent was filed in 2000 and only finally published back in 2006. This was probably intended for GameCube. I think Nintendo's recent lockdown on online safety.
Also, this news is old. GoNintendo posted this almost 2 years ago on June 6th, 2006. Don't expect this anytime soon.
Holy Shiz! I actually found this on Codenamerevolution, it was on their homepage last night. I then followed a comment on there to GoNintendo's version of the report.
All I want to know, is how the hell did this get on Codenamerevolution's homepage when I refreshed?
That's weird.
Anyways, I wish this would actually happen.
Yea remember this being patented a little before iiM a little before the Wii was released. I wonder if Nintendo will even get to using this patent.

Don't count on it.
I don't see this happening when they won't even let you have voice chat or proper text chat in one of their biggest games.
Yeah, Nintendo are made of too much fail for this.
I'm pretty sure I remember hearing about this patent before the Wii came out... Something about !!M or whatever...
If only Nintendo gave the people what they want.
If only Nintendo gave the people what they want.
If Nintendo gave people what they wanted, Microsoft and Sony would have no competition with them, cause Nintendo would kick major ass.
But one can only dream.
Not gonna happen. Communicating with people is for suckers and pedophiles

Holy Cow I'm a pedophile!
