1984 by Orwell
Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck
I think those are probably my two favorites.
Give an honorable mention to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I read the whole series in a couple months.

The Hitchhiker's Guide changed my freakin' life!
But I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series, even if the ending was a typical hero storyline.
World War Z was enjoyable as well.

ANY Stephen King (because he is the best writer ever)
and
House of Leaves
because its super TRIPPY
EDIT: OH AND The Ruins. Movie looks like the worst thing ever made, not like the book at all. But the book is nonstop on the edge of your seat action, each chapter is a cliffhanger, took me 2 days to read it because I couldnt put it down. Amazing writing.

I know everyone's gonna laugh at me, but Harry Potter. The ending was so perfect!!! And Rowling didn't leave out a thing in the entire series, and made use of every event and item in the earlier books.

Everything written by David Sedaris is amazing. I spent an entire summer, three years ago, jetting frequently from one West Coast airport to another, and I bought every one of his books along the way in one airport bookstore or another.
I also love Augusten Burroughs. And Nick Hornby.

oh HELL YEAH!!!
That was the first one I read and it IS laugh-out-loud funny! He's called the greatest American humorist since Mark Twain and I'd have to say I whole heartedly agree.
You should read Running With Scissors by Augusten Burrough. FREAKIN' hilarious, in the same vein as David Sedaris, just a little "darker" because he had a more f*cked up childhood than Sedaris did.
