While the announcement of a Wii version of ROCK BAND, games like EA's Boogie may have lost their premise, but karaoke is still a pastime shared by millions worldwide and Hudson Soft are bringing it to Wii.
Revealed at a recent Hudson event, Karaoke Joysound Wii will be both a WiiWare and a retail release. However, the WiiWare release seems mostly useless in that in order to play the game a microphone is required, which must be bought in a store. Instead of using the iTunes-esque "pay-per-song" model, KJW will be using a subscription to Xing's "Joysound" online service, where thousands of songs are available for download.
Don't get your hopes up for an American or European release though, as the game relies on subscription to a Japanese music site. Karaoke Joysound Wii launches in Japan this summer.
