Here's a link to some link's of Mario Kart reviews. I'm not expecting super high scores for this one, as the Kart series has been "bashed" for a long time by reviewers.. doesn't detract anything from its funfactor though.
Official Nintendo Mag. UK: 94/100
Gamemasters UK: 91/100
Nintendo Power: 90/100
IGN UK: 89/100
NGamer UK: 88/100
IGN: 85/100
Eurogamer: 80/100
DarkZero: 80/100
Thunderbolt: 80/100
Edge Magazine: 60/100
games: 60/100
Averaging an 82/100 so far, and as a reminder, Double Dash averaged an 87/100 on this compilation site. Mario Kart DS had a 91/100 on said site, Mario Kart 64 (83/100), and Super Circuit (GBA: 93/100).
Not sure why any source would review a game without experiencing everything it has to offer, i.e. the Mario Kart Channel and such. Goes to show how much faith anyone should put into scores alone.
Updated select scores/average.
Edge magazine said this: Having sacrificed racing integrity in "Double Dash" to side with social silliness, Nintendo has turned 180 degrees into an awkward halfway house.
Yea they're kind of jumping the gun a little with their scores, but maybe they'll do another take on the channel at a later date. Not surprising scores so far.
Seems good so far. Anyone notice the really low scores from other magazines such as Edge magazine? Im thinkin that either they are too biased because the past magazines have the mario Kart seires as getting 6's or they are just rating it low so they can attract publicity.
They're reviews are rather early and can't really be trusted. I like the idea of finishing a game before you actually review it. Unfortunately most reviewers don't see it that way. Mario Kart to me is like Brawl in that I'll buy it regardless of the reviews.
Rushed reviews for a rushed game.
I don't think the game as rushed.. I just don't think it was hyped, at all
We heard about it less than a year ago. And even then it was an announcement that took a back seat to Wii Fit.
Anyway, another reason for the scores is that Mario Kart isn't really what I'd consider a 9+ franchise... apart from Mario Kart DS. That game was awesome.
I am really skeptical about buying this game. I am SHOCKED, STUNNED AND APPALLED that Nintendo is so f*cking stupid! I mean, c'mon big N. Team Battle mode? WTF is that garbage? My friends and I played hours of battle on MK64 (Block Fort FTW) and it was one of the best parts. Now that is replaced with some stupid team garbage with CPUs. The online is a step in the right direction, although the kiddy company had to make this weird leaderboard which compares you to others, without saying flat-out who is the best player. LAME. And why doesn't Brawl have that? Brawl only sold over 2 million copies and is the biggest game on the biggest system right now. Nintendo is pissin me off guys.
But the funny thing is, I will get MKWii because nothing else is out! I have to wait until August for Madden and Star Wars Unleashed. *Sigh*. Pick it up Nintendo.
Sora worked on Brawl's online while Nintendo was more focused on MKWii's online, hence why it's better. Who know's what Nintendo will reveal @ E3 this year too. Third Parties have some new IPs on the way that you might want to look into.
Wow, the scores go all over the place.
Nice. Thats a good score for mario kart since the past titles got lower than average scores.
hmm i dont really care what others give it since im getting it anyway, but it's a bit odd to see it be given a 60/100...
I havn't really been paying much attention to the reviews for this game, but after watching Game Trailers video review, I'm really not that impressed. I will pick it up in the next few weeks, but I'm in no rush now.
Eh, so far I'd say it's on par with other Mario Kart Titles. Very much in line with Mario Kart DS and Double Dash. I love using the wheel, although I'm sure I'm in the minority amongst gamers. So far I'd give it about 85-90 out of 100. I need to try out the online though...
I have to post this:
Game Chronicles gave Mario Kart Wii a 42/100. This is what they have to say:
"Mario Kart boils down to a whole lot of luck and very little skill."
Think someone's a little bitter about some losses?
Bitter in deed, the skill is to stay in close second in case of any blue shells, but not too close.
Meh, they are close to being on the mark.
I'd probably give Mario Kart 5 or 6 out of 10.
Far too little skill involved, single player is a bore after you get everything, and as for the online... well, that's its only real selling point. Because local multiplayer just isn't good enough on this game.
