If your eyes weren't instantly drawn to the image on the right I'm sure it still wouldn't have been too hard to figure out what WiiLoaded's pick for Game of the Month would have been for March. Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been Wii's most anticipated release without a doubt with many buying Wii consoles at launch with Brawl being their main reason for the purchase.
The long running series has made an appearance on every Nintendo home console since the N64 and has slowly grown in popularity with each sequel. The fast paced 2D fighter has captivated gamers and brought fan-service to a whole new level. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was a huge step forward for the series with the addition of a robust single player experience and online multiplayer. Add this to a very large roster of characters, more stages than ever, and even the ability to create your own custom stages and Brawl is every Smash Bros. fan's dream.
While the online play can be a bit sketchy at times things have slowly been coming together and hopefully at some point down the line Nintendo will be able to resolve the issues. If as a Wii owner you could only purchase one game this would be it. The game is able to cater to both the hardcore and technical player while still being able to appeal to the party audience looking to only get a few matches in and have a good time.
Runner up - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
While the winner was an easy decision the runner up position came down to Bully: Scholarship Edition and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. While both are great titles that every Wii owner should at the very least consider looking into, PES pulled ahead. The Wii version of PES 2008 brings more to the table than simply being a port of the other versions and Konami has done a great job in innovating and changing their franchise which is what Wii is all about. The point, click, and drag mechanics work surprisingly well and should be held up as the standard for not only Wii soccer games in the future, but sports games in general. It is arguably the must have version of the game for soccer fans everywhere.
A Second Take - Alex51011
If there was only one game I could buy it would have to be Smash Bros. The game has given me hours upon hours of joy. Almost everything about the game seems to be polished to perfection. The characters, stages, music, everything. It’s almost too much to take for one game; it does have problems of course but the pros far outweigh the cons. I could go on forever telling you why this game is so great but there’s no need for that. Simply put, Smash Bros. is probably the best game on the Wii and is without a doubt the single greatest game released this March.
I easily agree with this. Although to be fair it had no competition anyway, just like Mario Kart won't next month.
My review states how much I agree with this award.
well deserved award
but Lmx is totally right... didn't really have any competition
still, awesome game
If it did have competition it would've taken a game that would be equal in quality to Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Defiantly, I'm surprised SMG or Metroid wasn't second, but whatever.
And yes, SSBB is no argument, the must have for any Wii owner, no acceptions, and next is Mario Kart.
SMG and Metroid didn't release this month...
I'd say that there isn't currently a game on the Wii that could outsell SSBB except for Wii Sports if it wasn't packed in with the system like in Japan or Wii Play because of the extra WiiMote. It really is/was one if not the most anticipated game for all Nintendo fans. I won't see Wii owners because man of the new owners don't even know what it is sadly enough. This month's game of the month is definitely a no brainer and a great game to boot. Now if Nintendo can get the online play right for it I'll be even happier than I already am.
Have you tried playing with people on your friends list? When I try playing world wide I get terrible lag, but on my friends list I can play perfect lag-less matches.
Yeah, I think that's the problem for me because of my region. I've only seen people on my list online once but they were away and I couldn't get a match started. I'll keep trying though. I can watch matches though.
One of these days we'll set up a time to try and get an online match going. I'm on spring break so my sleep schedule is probably more in tune with your timezone anyways.
Anyways... back on topic, hopefully people don't forget about PES. Even if you aren't a soccer fan you should try it once just to check out the controls.
PES is huge over here but they call it Winning Eleven. Any arcade you go to and you'll see people playing it. There are also so many shops here that people pay to play the PS1 and PS2 versions of older PES games. I would say it's the biggest game here and I'll be interested to see how it does here as well.
I like this format guys, keep it up ^_^
