Many of you are probably thinking that the successor of the Wii would be crazy, but not now. Iwata though doesn’t work like that, and is open to discussing the next generation of games for Nintendo.

“We are always preparing for the next hardware,” Iwata says. “We are under development. … But the hardware is a kind of box that consumers reluctantly buy in order to play our games.”

In other words, until Nintendo Wii sales run dry and developers have squeezed most of the possibility out of the Wii, we will then see the next console. The dilemma Nintendo has now is that it will be hard to outdo what they did with the Wii.

“Every hardware needs some revolutionary features,” Iwata says. “This time around, it happened to be we had a revolutionary user interface. Will it be the same for the next generation? I really can’t tell.

“It’s natural for the current customer to expect Nintendo is going to once again do something different,” he continues. “If the people are expecting so many different things from Nintendo, it’s going to be difficult for us to go beyond that expectation again.”

This is huge news and this just makes me jittery about what Nintendo’s next move will be to change the gaming industry once again.

when wiis are sittng on shelves EVERYWHERE, then he can start worrying about a new system

crank up your distribution first dumba*ses
That is true, drew.

But some points, Nintendo. You have gameplay down, now you need graphics to back up the gameplay. So don't ass around next generation.
Yup, if they can mix the Wii with the 360 and/or PS3 and still make it appeal to the casual and core gamer.
Then Nintendo FTW.
But until then, Nintendo for the boring.
I think you'll see more and more people picking up HDTVs in the U.S. before the February 2009 digital change and the idea of high definition won't be so much a luxury, but something most everyone will be use to when they turn on their evening news let alone watch satellite or cable television.

I think Nintendo will release a new system sometime in 2010. It might not be anything all that different from the Wii that's on the market now, but you'll see the motion controls fixed and you'll see an HD chip. I don't think you'll see Nintendo go beyond the DVD, but I would expect a HDD solution. In 2 years time they'll be able to do all of that and still keep the size of the Wii very small if not the same exact size.
^^^^then drew will be pissed
Hell all they have to do is give me some hi-def gaming and they have a sell right here.
What I want from Nintendo next gen is a remote that has the same sensitivity as what will be offered with MotionPlus, or even better than that if possible. As well as a nunchuk that's just as responsive.

Graphics that are also at least up to PS3 standards (its potential really as very few games have fully used the PS3 so far and its standards are more or less the same as the 360 at the moment) and I'll be fine.

I assume that by then a HDD and voice chat won't be a problem anymore. I also think they'll move past DVDs by then. If not then something a little more powerful than the 360 will be fine considering it will no doubt be the cheapest console on the market again.
how do you know he's not talking about the next DS
I'm excited for it. But all I'm saying is this had better be a code name... I always praise Nintendo for their originality in naming their systems, unlike some others (*Cough* Sony and Microsoft *Cough*) who just slap numbers behind their original names. Even though it wasn't much, at least new words were added for the new Game Boy systems.
It won't be called Wii2. Heck, they are probably way off the codename process too.

originality?
Nintendo Entertainment System
SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System (just added the word Super in front)
Nintendo 64 (cause of the 64 bit processor)
Gamecube (shape?)
Wii (????)

I dunno. 'Wii2' sounds like something Nintendo would use. Not only does it sounds marketable but they'll be able to make all kinds of puns with it. I can see E3 2011 now...
