The Basics, Along With Some New Stuff
Guitar Hero World Tour is the fourth instalment of the Guitar Hero series. It will continue to support similar game play that the previous titles have brought. This time around, drum and microphone peripherals will be added, a new addition to the series, so it will play much like Rock Band. Common elements such as star power will return, the basic Career Mode will be remodeled. A new "Beginner" difficulty setting will be made along with the regular [Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert] difficulties. Five instrument career modes will be in the game: lead and bass guitar, percussion, vocals, and online/offline full band.

Instruments
The Guitar
RedOctane has developed a new guitar controller for the game. This new peripheral features a new touchpad under the normal five buttons on the guitar. This allows the player to alter the tone of sustained notes as well as tapping to replace strumming and simulation slapping a bass. Guitars from older Guitar Hero games will work with WT.

The New Instruments
WT will be adding two new instruments: drums and vocals. It is revealed that a wireless, velocity-sensitive six-piece drum controller is being developed. This will feature two cymbal pads, a snare, two toms, and a bas drum pedal. The velocity sensitivity, during song creation, will allow players to alter the sound of their drum. The set will also feature a MIDI port in the back, allowing users to connect compatible equipment, such as a second bass drum pedal. The official microphone uses a USB connection instead of a wireless one, although players may use any USB microphone.

Customization
Customization
In the "Create-a-Rocker" mode, similar to "Create-a-Skater" from Neversofts Tony Hawk series, players will be able to model the avatar's poise, clothing, tattoos, makeup, and even age. Characters previous Guitar Hero games will be available as templates for character creation. As a result of a lawsuit with Gibson Guitars, the player will also be able to customize their own guitar for the game to a high degree. Drum sets and microphones will also be customizable.

Character models, in addition to the game and player's characters, based off famous musicians will be included in the game. Hayley Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Corgan (of The Smashing Pumpkins), and Travis Barker (of Blink-182 and +44 fame). A rumor suggests that the game will feature the band Tool, Ted Nugent, Sting, Ozzy Osbourne, and Zakk Wylde.

Custom Songs
Guitar Hero World Tour will allow players to create their own tunes and distribute them to others over Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Vocals are not supported due to copyright reasons. Originally, this was to be a "Jam Over" mode where players would make new over already existing songs on the disk, but Activision stated that it had been taken out of the game.

"Advanced Studio" mode is used to create new, original pieces and-according to Game Informer-is similar to Apple's GarageBand software. Players can create tracks of each song in real or slowed time, with the game quantizing notes to the nearest beat set to by the player or the tracks can be made one note at a time. Both guitar and drum effects can be set and changed throughout the song. Notes played by the user will be set at a default "Expert" difficulty while recording, and that lower difficulty sets will be generated by the game. Guitar Hero World Tour will be using Line 6 POD technology for better guitar sounds.

Custom songs will be uploaded to the "GH Tunes" service, which will let players everywhere to rate songs, and to search and download songs via ratings, and will include a Showcase by Neversoft to show off the best of user's works alongside new songs from popular groups. Players will only be able to upload five piece to the service at the start, but players with highly rated songs will gain the ability to upload more. The PlayStation 2 version will support custom song creation, but users will not be able to upload songs to the service.

UPDATE!!
Online
As friend codes are almost unavoidable in any online enabled Wii game (thank you, EA Nation!) it should come as no surprise that those dreaded numbers will be rearing their ugly heads in Guitar Hero: World Tour as well. However Vicarious Visions seems to be one of the few Wii developers sincerely interested in squeezing every last bit of power out of the system and it's evident in their approach to playing online and downloadable content.

Always online
Guitar Hero: World Tour will allow you the option to be constantly connected online, even when only playing locally, or just browsing the menus. You will now know instantly when any of your friends have booted up the game and be able to invited them to join you for a song or two. For those incredibly paranoid of letting other know what they're playing and when, you can choose to keep yourself invisible.

Downloadable Content
Downloadable content will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii versions. This, perhaps, is the first game-if not just in the Guitar Hero series-to support downloadable content to the Wii. Users will be able to download to the Wii's internal memory or directly onto an SD card into a "Rock Archive", and will be able to play songs directly from their SD cards and create custom playlists with them. Players will be able to download songs directly from the in-game menus, without the need to visit the Wii Shop Channel first.

At Microsoft's E3 2008 press conference, it was revealed that Metallica's new Death Magnetic album would be downloadable content, and that three R.E.M. songs from their album Accelerate will be released in October: "Horse to Water", "Man-Sized Wreath", and "Supernatural Superserious". Jimi Hendrix songs, in addition to the ones already on the disk, have been confirmed as DLC.

Wii Exclusive Features
Aside from making use of the Wii remotes in the guitar and drum peripherals Activision has announced that the Wii version of Guitar Hero: World Tour will include a "Mii Freestyle" mode, allowing players to bring their Miis into the action and provide an easier play experience for those who want it.

"Mii Freestyle gives you the power to freely improvise and create music on the fly, but is very simple to use -- so you don't have to know a thing about music or music theory to sound good. You can play single-player or multi-player with your own Mii as either a guitarist or drummer in your band. You can use the guitar controller, the drum controller, or even just a Wii remote and nunchuk to play air drums." - David Nathanielsz, executive producer.

Very nice!!!

I really want this game, I can't wait for it!!
(I'll make sure to keep this updated at all times. Anything new, I'm there.)

Man, I'm excited to get this. I've already formed a band with Kindrik, Smaky, and Mark. So I'm safe. x3

Fix'd.

Haven't been this excited for a Guitar Hero game or even the original Rock Band. Can't wait to get this game. I just hope that $189.99 price isn't official. As far as I know Activision hasn't confirmed a price yet.
It sounds about right to me, it certainly won't be cheap with all that stuff bundled in.

It's just the Amazon pre-order price that Smaky found. So it's very likely to change, hopefully, to the better.

It's the same in the EB Games upcoming releases book which has me worried but still hopeful considering Rock Band cost $169 and Activision said WT would cost less than Rock Band so I'm optimistic on a price of $159.99.
this game looks awesome. Does anybody know how the career mode is gonna work? is it gonna be like the old guitar hero's? Or is it gonna be like world tour in rock band? I personally really liked the world tour in rock band, but never got to do it on my own because I don't have it, so if this game has it, it will be better than rock band 2.
Yeah, the career mode will be nonlinear like Rock Band's career mode; you can just pick a gig to play at once it becomes available, or play at one that's already been unlocked prior to unlocking the new one.
You could have, for example, three different gigs you haven't played, all available at the same time.
What gets me about career mode, if you have the ability to change the difficulty of the song mid-mode-if you can't complete a song, that is-does that mean the rest of the career will be at the difficulty you set for that song the one time, or not.

Because if it is...

Cool. I can't wait for this game

Activision Collaborates With Logitech to Develop Premium Instruments for Guitar Hero® World Tour.

GoNintendo Wrote:
Activision Publishing, Inc. today announced a collaboration to develop and market premium instrument controllers for Guitar Hero® World Tour, the latest installment of the world’s best-selling music-based video game franchise, which ships this fall for the Xbox 360™ video game system from Microsoft, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Nintendo Wii™.

Logitech plans to offer premium instruments for each of these platforms, the first of which will be available later this year. Logitech’s products will be compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour’s advanced feature set, allowing players to elevate their Guitar Hero® jam sessions to full-fledged rock concerts. “Logitech is the leading producer of peripheral devices and the company is widely considered to be the gold standard for innovation and quality peripheral products,” said Charles Huang, vice president business development for RedOctane. “With Logitech, we know we have found the right partner who can deliver top-quality premium hardware that consumers have come to expect from Guitar Hero.” ...

So it looks like WT will be getting it's own set of "Ion drums". I guess I don't really care, but if these things turn out to be super kickass, I'll probably worry about price factor.

More songs have been added to the track list. Smile
Just saw this thread and I'm definitely getting this day 1. I don't have Rock Band and was actually thinking about picking it up before this was announced but changed my mind once I saw the drum set and everything else. There have been some rumored track lists but nothing official yet except for some of the songs.
I already have Rock Band, but even so this looks pretty cool. I'll probably end up buying RB2 over this though. But the DLC is nice for the Wii version and hopefully it continues with other games.
Shameless bump.

Twelve new songs have been added, I've also found some pictures of the guitar and drum peripherals that include the Wii remote. Silly of me to not go to RedOctane's official website/store.

Enjoy!
