So, is clearing boss battle with all characters one challenge I'm going to have to use my hammer on? It's annoying as hell having to use hearts in between boss battles rather than just giving me 3 lives. So many uncalled for deaths.
I'll battle on for now, until I see all the challenge requirements.

Seriously, though; if you're going to do something time-consuming, it's best for it to be an actual challenge instead of you just sitting there, being bored.
And yeah, it's definitely doable, so I would say don't use your hammer on it. (You don't have to do it immediately - you have the game forever, you know. >_> )

There are a total of 5 hammers, you get the others by completing a challenge that has one hidden in it. If the box is red you can usually see another hammer behind the item for that challenge. Don't confuse it with the Golden Hammer trophy though. I currently have 4 hammers and have no idea where the fifth one is.
I have all 5. I don't know how I got them, however.
Don't waste a Golden Hammer on it. Beat it on Easy with all characters, it won't be as hard as you think. Get a friend around if it helps, beating it on co-op counts I believe. At least I know it does when going for the challenges "Beat Boss Mode on Hard, Very Hard and Intense"

Honestly, there are only a few REALLY hard challenges, some of them are do-able but may cost you a lot of coins (All Star on Intense for example)

Well the stupid thing is, i've done all-star on intense, but I wasted a hammer on it before I thought I could do it.
Yeah, I'm not using any hammers until I see what's required by every challenge.
I have the worst gaming luck. On the 100 man melee I got down to 1 character left with 3 different characters before I somehow managed to beat it with wolf.
