I will host a Mario Kart Wii online tournament. Just post your user name if you would like to join. Also post if you would like to have weapons or not. Tournament will begin on May 16th. Practice your raceing skills. Time zones will be as followed. MST-2:00PM, PST-1:00PM, CST-3:00PM, EST-4:00PM, AST-5:00PM.

Two observations here.  1.  Who the hell are all those people because I've never seen or heard of them except for you.  2. I don't think it's possible to take out the weapons in the matches but I could be wrong.

Um, I'm interested. But how will it work? The best I could think of is having say 4 pools of 12 racers. Each pool does the four track thing and top 3 of each to one final 12 kart race.

Please elaborate?

And also, as far as I know weapons cannot be turned off.

meh im not entering this. brawl is the only nintendo game as of right now that i can view competitively IMO

I haven't done it yet, but there is an option to turn weapons off in versus mode (as well as select types of weapons.. aggressive, defensive, etc.). Not sure if it can be done online, but I'd assume it can.

Check the set-up screen (top-right corner) when selecting solo/team play.

I like the items. Without them its not really Mario Kart. :]

The only way to play without items is through Time Trials - and even then you're given 3 super mushrooms to use at any time during your run to better your lap times.

If you're looking for an ego-trip you're better off waiting for F-Zero - or jumping consoles to go play Forza or Gran Turismo because with Mario Kart you've little choice but to enjoy the spectacle of Blue Shells shattering dreams of victory.

Christ, maybe some people got incomplete versions of the game.  

This simply isn't true.  In versus mode racing, you can set the rules including types of items (grouped in sets of Normal, Agressive, [Something that takes away the powerful items - I call it defensive but I forget what they call it], and None).  You can also set the way the tracks are selected (Random, Order, Picked), number of races to declare a victor, and some other options.  I've raced the computer in a 2-race versus match without items.. it was all about speed boosts and cornering and reminded me a lot of the SNES game.

No ****? Kotaku was complaining about there being no way to switch things on or off, and since it wouldn't let me alter these things vs. Computer in Versus mode I figured that was just how things were.

AHA! FOUND YOU!!

Damn Nintendo hiding it in the upper right corner of the Solo/Team menu. I messed with it and "Strategic" seems the best setting. Still allows for Mario Kart to be Mario Kart, but avoids the general clusterluck of Blue Shells and Bullet Bills.

Alright, when everyone is raceing in this tournament against the guy's in your bracket, you don't have to race everyone at the same time. It will make it easier, so you can race everyone who is on, just in case one racer in your bracket is not online. Be sure to add everyone in your bracket. Round 1 ends monday.
