With the release of Mega Man 9 coming this September, Capcom really wants this game to be an old school experience. According to the company’s Hironobu Takeshita, an optionable feature will make the game screen flicker to create a true old-school experience. Thank goodness it’s optionable.
"Yeah, there were some things, like you couldn't have more than three enemies on the screen at once, so we had to make sure that that's how it stayed in our game. In the part with the dragon with the flame, [there should be] flickering, and whatnot," noted the game's producer. "In the options of this game, you can adjust that, unlike the old games. We purposely put some of those old-school bugs into this game, so it does recreate that feel.
If only Capcom could make us need to blow in the Wii game disc slot. Now
that would be old-school.

Lol, I remember blowing into the slot and the cartridge. There was also the rubbing back and forth on the cartridge while it was in the NES as well. Ah, good times.
nice lm-x.
seriously, what's up with intentional bugs? I know they want it to be really retro but damn.
LMAO lm-x that's classic, that brings back memories though.
intentional bugs? What a stupid idea. Just because the old games used to flicker doesn't mean we liked it.
I think people are getting a little too carried away with the nostalgia things. There's no point in having this flicker thing in the game. At least they're making it an option. I don't see who the hell would play with flicker and slow down if it were a choice, but some people are just friggin weird I guess.
I wasn't gonna play with the flickering, but since you guys are talking it down, im only gonna play with the bugs, so take that.
Well, we'll crown you the King of doing something that we don't care about then, shall we?
People complaining about an option? That's new.
when i first heard about the game being 8-bit, i was kinda worried that they'd emulate it to a 't'. im glad theyre actually using the current gen hardware to not have the flickering and instead throw it in as an option. i wonder if one of the achievements will be, 'beat the game with flicker and bugs enabled'. it would def. be a challenge.
btw, do VC retro games have the flicker issue?
People complaining about an option? That's new.
Well, it's like a republican complaining about the democratic candidates.
Anyway, we're not complaining, just stating facts. It is a stupid idea.
Yeah, I wouldn't say I'm complaining. I'd just say its pointless... playing with annoying flickering and bugs? Who'd do that willingly... besides to prove a point.
I won't be picking up this game because I'm kind of burnt out when it comes to Mega Man, but putting bugs and such into a game just to make it nostalgic seems a little odd to me. Many of today's gamers didn't experience Mega Man on the NES or the older systems so these bugs and things might just be an annoyance. Luckily Capcom was smart enough to let the gamer turn this stuff on and off.
