Full Version: Kart vs Bike... differences?

Okay guys, I must admit I haven't read the instruction manual or anything. I have played about a half hour of the game, and was wondering what are the primary differences between the kart of the bikes? Advantages/disadvantages? Which do you use?
Drifting boosts are the main differences. Bikes cannot acces red spark full boosts, only blue spark boosts. Red > Blue. However the Bikes can pull off wheelies which increase speed but lose all sense of control while the wheelie is happening. Bikes are 'lighter' as in if you get hit a recovery time will be a little bit longer.

This could explain why I failed to get red boosts so many times. I never linked it to kart/bike.

Cappin pretty much nailed it. Bikes will outrun Karts on a straightaway due to the wheelies, from my experience anyhow. I have a question though. Is it possible to get the red sparks and still use Automatic???

According to the in game help screen, you can't get a boost off corners on automatic (perhaps they meant a red boost?). I've only been playing manual though.

Automatic drifts do not give yourself a boost.

Ok, I guess I gotta stop being lazy and start playing manual.  It's good anyways because if you can jump then you can take some shortcuts that are only possible with jump normally such as on the old ghost one.

Oh, and I just came across this asking if we should ban bikes from online play.

Shall We Ban Bikes From Mario Kart?
I use the good old karts. The bikes dont seem to matter that much in online play... i still win >_>
I use bikes, for online at least and I always do pretty good compared to when I'm using a cart for some reason.

also I drive in automatic, I can't stand manual because they totalling F'd up snaking.. its garbage now
What is the difference between manual and automatic?

Drifting. Manually you control it and get boosts. Automatic it does it automatically on turns but you don't get the boost.

They did that on purpose. Thank god.

I can't stand automatic. I lose to much concentration while trying to do that.

really? its the exact opposite of with me.. the crappy drifting makes me lose my concentration more.. which Is kinda weird since i would always do it in mkds lol. oh well, automatic gives sharp turns to make up for it, and at least it still lets you do wheelies and tricks

once you get the wheelie controls down bikes are fantastic, but can be easily bullied by bumping with carts.

WOW tell me about it, I was doing a wheelie in the last stretch of Luigi's track, I was in 2nd and the first place guy was zapped with lightning so he was mini, I was about to pass him then a tool in a donkey kong car bumped me and totally messed me up, put me in 4th place I was so mad

I have to agree with Wenis about being on Automatic. You don't have to start and hold the power slide down so you can concentrate on it more and you don't have to worry about not hitting it right. I'll have to go back and forth between the two to see which one I prefer.
I've found the drifting mechanics are very different in karts vs bikes.

due to the fact that a bike leans to turn if you push the direction of the drift you often end up in a wall. It just takes some getting used to though, but I can see a lot of people having issues with this. Once you figure it out though it's not so hard.
I prefer bikes, Dry Bones Magikruiser ftw

I actually foun it harder to control on Manual using the wheel and so I go with automatic. I've always have for racing games anyway. And how do you perform those boosts.
