On 9-16-2008, the best RPG of the NES will make it's way to the DS in North America. It's the port of the ps1 remake (that sadly, was only in Japan) with new extras.

This game has five chapters, the first four of which you are introduced to supporting characters to the hero, which all tie in together in the end. You get to use warriors, mages, merchants, dancers and a hero who's whole village goes up in smoke before his/her very eyes (you get to choose the gender of the hero).

There's tons of random encounters, a huge world map, many cities, villages, castles, dungeons, etc. There's a lot of grinding, puzzles, saving up money, and helping people involved.

I've played the original NES cart through about 10 times. It's super fun. I know that they have fixed a few annoyances, and I hope that they changed chapter five so that you can control the other characters (what I remember was you can only control the hero in chapter five on the NES cart).

Who else is looking forward to experiencing one of the best RPGS of the 8 bit generation?
I've never been a fan of DQ. I think I was just turned off by the original where you had to open a menu and choose to open doors, walk up steps, talk to people or take treasure instead of FF where you'd just walk into the door, walk onto the steps or hit A to take treasure and talk. It was a huuuuuge annoyance to open the menu every time to do absolutely anything. Then there was the hidden characters during battle. I liked seeing my character walk up and swing the sword or cast a spell. I've not played a single DQ game since thinking the first was utter crap after 10 minutes of play.
DQIV has nothing to do with the first DQ game. So why the negative response?
It was just the impression given to me by a game with a title including the words "Dragon Quest". Anytime I see a DQ game I think about that absolutely horrid control system and it completely turns me off to the game. It's like eating at a restaurant and getting really bad service. A different restaurant under the same chain may have the best service in the world, but that experience with the first will likely make you not want to go to any other restaurants with the same name.

If the game's price lowers and I find it used down the road I may get it, but I won't buy it new. There are many other games on my list I'm saving for.
The first Dragon Quest is weird in the sense that you had to put in commands that become auto in the other one. I recommend that you try out the other ones, because II, III, and IV are some of the best games out there.

I understand your issue with I (but I still love that game).
Whens it coming out?

wait..i think i see
Well I'm glad they changed that, and I may check the game out later, but it's still not at the top of my list. I haven't even beaten FFTA2 yet since FFIVDS came and stole all my time. Then there's CTDS coming soon. So many games and so little time.
70 hours on FFTA2 for me ftw
I'm still needing to beat FFTA2 and FF-IV DS AAAAAND Fire Emblem DS. So this has to wait, regardless of release dates.

CTDS isn't until months after this one. I really recommend this game. A true RPG at heart. And it takes some time!!!
