Epic Designer Says PC Gaming Is In "Disarray"
Chris Faylor Feb 15 2008

Long-time PC developer Epic Games is now moving the PC to the backseat in favor of console development, Unreal designer and Gears of War (PC, X360) creator Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski (pictured left) has stated.
"For me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we're doing," Bleszinski told MTV Multiplayer. "[PC is] important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at.

"I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and Gears of War is at 4.5 million right now on the 360," he stated.

At last year's Game Developers Conference, Epic president Michael Capps attributed the company's increasing number of console projects to PC piracy. "PC gaming is really falling apart," Capps noted. "It killed us to make Unreal Tournament 3 cross-platform, but Epic had to do it."

Bleszinski offered similar commentary in his recent statements, blaming the increasingly casual-driven PC market for the console-focused attitude.

"I think the PC is just in disarray," he explained. "That's driving the PC right now is Sims-type games and World of Warcraft and a lot of stuff that's in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That's the direction PC is evolving into."

I'll agree that most PC games are moving towards point and click simplicty that doesnt require the quick thinking or hand eye coordination of console games. But does this make them inferior? Does it really dismantle the heart of PC gaming at its core?
i would hope a MS developer like cliffy b would at least be a PC gaming supporter...
This is what I was mentioning earlier. More and more publishers are shying away from producing games for the PC. People still need to remember though the PC has superior power to consoles because they can be upgraded. The best looking games are still on the PC (if you have top o the line) but I really wonder how long will that last. I know some of my friends have told me that they are fed up with having to upgrade to play games and would rather play on a console and not have to worry about it. I still play games on my laptop too though but not as much as before.
Well, while on one hand its annoying to have to upgrade to play games, at the same time...you're making necessary upgrades...maybe ones you would have ignored before. I can hardly complain about that, but thats just me.
