Notes:
- GTA IV had the second-best debut week on the Xbox 360 (after Halo 3) and the best debut week for a PS3 game. The two versions combined for the biggest debut week of any game in at least this generation or the last.
- Guitar Hero III is the sixth Wii game to sell 2 million in NA and the first third-party Wii game to do so.
- Mario Kart Wii had the Wii's second-best debut week (after Super Smash Bros. Brawl).
- The Wii has sold 25 million units worldwide.

*Wii debuts:
- Mario Kart Wii - 1,231,264 (#3)
- Iron Man - 24,137 (#44)
I'm not surprised by those figures, they all seem pretty spot on.
"Mario Kart or GTA?"
Was it ever a serious question as to who would come out on top here?
Not that I am aware of. Although it did nearly beat the PS3 version.
i would hope at a cost of $100 million+ gta would finish #1

...at least til may 17
GTA4 has taken the top two spots and there's no surprise there. Mario Kart Wii also had a strong showing. Some things to keep in mind though are the amount of consoles out there. The PS3 has the least amount of consoles (worldwide) so that's still pretty good to sell that many. I do wonder how many people bought GTA4 in Japan? Is it even popular there??
Probably not. Has it launched in Japan?
I'm still surprised by the Mario Kart Wii numbers, since we've heard of all the issue and mediocrity of the game. This coming from someone who's loved the series, but won't miss not being able to play this version.

Double Dash forever!!!
Ugh... Double Dash.
Regardless of what's happened in MK Wii I'd still put it above Double Dash, and I really liked Double Dash.
I'm not sure if I would put it above Double Dash but they're very close for me. I like both versions but like them for different reasons. Now come to think of it though I guess I would put Mario Kart Wii above DD because of the online play.
Yeah, that's the main deciding factor for me that pushed Wii above DD.

Double Dash's battle was terrible imo.  The racing was where it shined.  As far as which race mode is better?  I can't say yet.  Kart Wii is providing a great racing experience thusfare (despite the over abundance of weapons).

I'm a little surprised by Kart's numbers.  I guess I wasn't expecting them to surpass 1 million the first week with the mediocre/bad reviews.  Also somewhat surprised GTA IV didn't surpass Halo 3 in initial sales for 360.

How about the Wii selling nearly 400k units? I guess stores had been stock piling them. I'm a little surprised the PS3 or 360 didn't sell more. I thought GTA4 would have pushed more systems, especially considering I can find PS3's and 360's on store shelves.

Too be expected, but if GTA IV came out a week later, MKWii would be ontop. And to be expected, people still buying Wii Play.

I'm surprized the Wii is still ontop for hardware sales since GTA IV just came out, you'd think like maybe the 360 would be ontop.
The 360 base is already in place, so I'm guessing that GTA IV pushed more PS3 hardware sales then 360 hardware sales.
i wonder who is still buying GBAs and why?
Parents who don't know any better...even though buying a DS would be a much better investment.
People who don't want to fork out cash for the DS.
maybe they are buying for very young kids
I think it's the same people who would say...my kids birthday's coming up and I wanna buy them an Xbox, PS2, or a Gamecube, and the store clerk looks at them and wonders how many hours their child will cry after opening up their birthday present.
