I've noticed the computer is at times able to lessen the effects of POW blocks. Sometimes it is like they do not get affected at all, even around areas without ramps when they aren't invulnerable for whatever reason. The only conclusion I've come up with is timing a "jump" (or the hop when you power slide) at the right time. So far I've only been able to pull it off once (not sure if it was a fluke), but on 150cc I was able to speed away from 2nd place when I timed a jump to coincide with the POW block. I still spun out, but it really didn't affect my speed as much, nor did I come to a complete stop.

Anyone else confirm this?
Yea, I've noticed this too, and I've also tryed to hop at the right time, but it never worked.
If you press the trick button at the right time, you will nullify the POW. You will still lose any items you have though.

trick or jump/drift?

I didn't know about hitting the trick button when someone uses the POW block on you. I'll have to give it a try.
how do you dodge blue shells.

and by trick button you mean...?
I don't think blue shells can be dodged unless it loses sight off you because of an obstacle or something.

That wasn't where I posted it?

No it was in the Wii section, but i know if you're in the air it won't effect you, the trick button I haven't done. The Jumpp on N64 DK Parkway allows you to avoid blue shells, the shoot star in RR and i think that's about it.
Blue Shells are near impossible to dodge.

But yes, the trick button (ie. method of doing wheelie) lessens the effect of the POW block. Works in Karts too. You'll spin out, lose your item but come out of the spin still driving instead of coming to a complete halt.
If you use the wii wheel, I just shake it a lot so I dont mess up the timing. It still works the same.
