So anyone who cares about Metallica at all already knows that the new album, Death Magnetic, will be out Sept 12, but today was the first day the new single, "The Day that Never Comes", could be heard on the radio (at least it was for me). It's definitely a huge breakaway from St. Anger which is a very good thing. They're not going back to their garage band days of the black album either though. It seems to be a new direction for the group from the one song I've heard so far. Fortunately, this new route is sounding great so far. The one thing they've continued is the longer songs which are filled with kickass jamming at the end. James Hetfield sounds as good as ever. Unfortunately, whatever set Lars is playing on now sounds like he bought it at a yard sale for $50. Hopefully it's just the one song, but it could be screwing up the whole album.
