Possible Format:
9 Entrants.
Stock w/time limit (2 Stock w/7 Minutes?)
Most seem to agree that while Timed matches allow for fun to continue until the bell rings, often who wins is more of a KO-Stealer than anything. Stock will clearly define a victor.
Multiple Rounds to decide a Bout (Three?)
Think of this like a Grand Prix in Mario Kart. You get awarded points depending on how you place at the end of the match, and
at the end of X matches these points are added up to see who's the WINNAR!
Point Assignment:
First Place - ?
Second Place - ?
Last Place - ? (Should he be awarded some for trying? I think so.)
The WINNAR then gets to move on to the next Bout at a later time. The WINNAR of that Bout will then be crowned TEH CLUSTAR CHAMPEEN!
Items: Low or OFF
There are multiple rounds for two reasons; the unlucky streak of being pummeled on by your two adversaries for a length of time, and the possible random element items add to a match (if turned on). With the item switch on Low it seems very rare for powerful things to appear, but sometimes things DO go wacky and you get two of a really awesome thing, and nothing else the rest of a match.

Expecting people to individually tweak what's what for every player is too much of a pain in the butt.

A strange idea that's crept into my mind... one can argue four-player matches with all items on turn into clusters. One can argue that traditional two-player matches are boring.
But what of a triple threat? A gametype where items *may* be turned on, but the overbearing "Party" items such as slow-time clocks and Smash Balls are turned off entirely? If this were to happen, what items would make the cut? I say anything that wasn't in the original smash brothers needs to be looked at. Closely.
This makes me wish Sakurai had the consideration to have item sets like Mario Kart. In that game I think the Strategic set suits it the most for serious play (it mirrors the original Mario Kart), and this is the mindset I have for this idea for Smash Brothers right now. Being more like the Original, less party clusters and more subtlety.
Needless to say, this isn't sanctioned by either Nintendo or whatever insular forum that usually produces rulesets so there shouldn't be rankings. I'm trying to find a combination of both fun and personal ability.
