Hardcore gamers all remember the events that unfolded at E3 2008. Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and more. Clearly, games to appeal to hardcore gamers were unfortunately absent. Just hearing that presumably the Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin teams were hard at work developing the new games wasn’t enough.
Nintendo now wants to reassure us again that games for core gamers will be coming, but not soon. "We have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete [them], approximately two to three years," the company stated in the latest issue of Edge, before adding that none will be ready to launch in early 2009.
This is obviously upsetting to many gamers around the world that love Nintendo. Feel free to post your anguished cries below.

hmmmm, so nothing in 2009...wtf
Well, it seems 2009 is gonna be a boring year, unless TS4 comes out.
I guess that's what we bought our current games for, right?
I have no problem waiting, personally. I just want Earthbound on my VC from Nintendo.
Where's the proof? Anyway, who cares. I know I won't be concerned when I get my PS3 come Christmas.
sigh...nothing in o9...

im...im... just sad. starts TRYING to think about NEW third party games...not much...

It might not affect you and me but for all the people who only own their Wii's 2009 looks set to be a pretty boring year
Thank god i've got my 360 and a bunch of good looking games set for release on that neat year.
I'm glad that Nintendo is hard at work on new stuff. I honestly believe that they've done enough for the first few years. We got a new Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Metroid all in the first two years of the console's launch. Meanwhile we've got games like The Conduit, MadWorld, Tales of Symphonia 2 and other games to keep us busy throughout 2009.
Nintendo can't just spit out new games every year. Look what SEGA did with Sonic. Everyone needs to stop whining about development time. Quality over quantity right?
*laughs in disbelief* I didn't think Nintendo would take THAT long to finally release something to please the "core" audience but oh well. I think this holiday season will be the perfect time to sell. Hopefully they will not have enough in stock to satisfy the demand and I can get a "great" price for it.
There's really no point in selling it unless you're absolutely sure you won't buy another one, or unless you'll make a good profit.
All I can say about the topic though is at least they're trying.
Yeah I feel for you guys with only a Wii, One hec of a boring year you've got in store for you. Still you do have a few gams to help you through that year. Good luck.
I only have a Wii and a DS.

But I am a huge animal crossing fanatic so that will help me. Also, I never finished MP3, Okami, or MK Wii so those will be my next mission.
on second read, that quote just means no pikmin in 09,
but that leaves the door open for multiple other 1st party titles after wii sports 2 of course, which may or may not be for the core gamer

Okami in particular should keep you busy for a long time. Especially if you try and get everything.
Latest is they'll need about 2-3 years to complete these "core" games that their teams are working on.

Sucks for Wii exclusive owners. In the mean time, the games coming out soon for other systems is bountiful.
Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Spore, Civ Revolutions, Mirror's Edge, GH:WT, RB2, Red Alert 3, Ep.3 should be coming out within the year, possibly with another great deal with Portal 2.
More then a university student's wallet can handle at least.
Get over it you guys. Did you honestly think that Nintendo could make new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros. games every year? They could, then we'd all be complaining that they're the exact same as the first ones. I've been waiting for Animal Crossing since the Wii was the Revolution and Mario wasn't even announced yet, but I haven't complained.
And, once again, games don't have to be hardcore to be good. Yes, let that soak in for a second. A good game is a good game, no matter many hours it takes to complete. Stop caring whether a game is hardcore or casual and just play it.
They don't have to be from Nintendo either, remember that. See, Rooster knows what he's talking about. MadWorld, The Conduit, Tales of Symphonia 2, just peruse a recent Nintendo Power, there are tons of awesome games coming out. I find it hard to believe that you guys need dozens of new games to "get through the year" anyway, especially since we all still play Super Mario Bros. and Crono Trigger.
Remember nearly half a year ago, when they announced Mario Kart was coming in Spring '08, and I said Nintendo would be better served delaying it until the fall? Umm, yeah.
This is terrible program management by Nintendo. So much for Reggie's promise of "no drought with Wii games" like the GC had. Summer '08 was pretty barren and desolate. I can't believe they don't have a Mario Sport title in the works for the fall. Oh well, hopefully they wait until WM+ and take full advantage.

This may be a fair point. But now it's mentioned, Twilight Princess WAS like Ocarina of Time. Metroid Prime 3 WAS like Metroid Prime in general crossed with Halo. Mario Galaxy was a lot like Mario 64 and Sunshine except on planets with awesome crazy gravity. And Brawl WAS just like Melee except slower and less impressive. Don't even get me started on Mario Kart Wii.
If we wait for these 2-3 years and the games aren't very impressive, Nintendo will be in trouble.
And, once again, games don't have to be hardcore to be good. Yes, let that soak in for a second. A good game is a good game, no matter many hours it takes to complete. Stop caring whether a game is hardcore or casual and just play it.
A good game is a good game. But a great game will last for a very, very long time and take a reasonable amount of time to complete.

Yes, those third party games are interesting and could be good. But this isn't about the Wii's lack of core games, this is about Nintendo's neglect of the core fanbase. The reason I play a lot of classic games is because there is **** all to play on the current consoles. And what stuff there is, lacks a certain magic that all those brilliant retro titles possess. But hey, maybe that's just me.
So in 2009 I'm left to only buy VC games? Heh, smooth Nintendo.
Also, I STILL NEED A 360 OR PC FOR LEFT 4 DEAD >:U
