"English, German, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese versions of Internet Explorer 8 have been released for public beta. New features include accelerators, which provide instant context menu access for a number of common tasks; automatic crash recovery, which prevents a single page's failures from taking down your entire browser; and browser privacy, a feature that didn't make Firefox 3. I'm primarily a Firefox user, and I've been using IE8 at work (MS) for the past few weeks. It's a definite improvement over previous versions, and brings a lot to the table that Firefox requires extensions for. Give it a spin, submit feedback, and help keep all browser makers on their toes by facing each other's competition."

IE8 Download Page [Microsoft.com]

--

I've been using it since early this morning/after work today. A few sites aren't compatible, but overall, I like the interface. I can't comment on the features such as IE7 mode yet, since I haven't had the time to delve deeply into it.
Well the automatic crash recovery that I like so much with Firefox is a nice addition, but I'm still rather unimpressed. Am I lazy enough to not download it when it arrives? Maybe.
The problem with IE now, is that it not only has to play extreme catch-up, It also needs something big to win people back from firefox.

So far everything useful they've made so far will be replicated in a firefox extension.

I still think IE is faster.

yeah, though with Firefox 3, the difference is negligible IMO. Plus I have a lot of extensions in firefox now that I simply depend upon (so much so I have a clone copy of the firefox on my PC, on my laptop)

ummmm i downloaded the beta it does nothing i mean nothing it can't display a page is it supposed to do that? i can't even go into tools why is it like that?it can't even close.....any help???
