I honestly think Ann Coulter could have been a better pick for them. Scandal free, right wing as they possibly come, and at least we know for a fact that she's as informed as possible about current politics, despite never being involved in them directly. I can't see her saying that she doesn't know what the vice president is supposed to do. Sure, its a scary thought, but seriously. Way less scandal!

In keeping on topic: Yes, Palin is attractive. It makes me wonder if McCain didn't do a little of that on purpose, too, to appeal to fellow sexists in relenting to voting for a female cause "at least she's hot". Maybe not. I won't knock her too badly for doing the pageant stuff. College is expensive and I'm sure she wasn't the same person then as she is now. I doubt the Sarah Palin then had political aspirations, but we all grow up sometime. Least she went to college instead of just doing it for kicks or for the money!

It was personal before this even began. To have objectified her in such a way in the first place is completely disrespectful of her position. True, its her own damn fault, but still. THAT'S being discussed, instead of her merits, or lack there of? This is a male-centric site, and its probably what got me revved up in the first place. Its disrespectful to the females present here.

Hey now... we have emotions too. We're not just sacks of flesh with a penis attached jeez. Male-centric or not, a lot of the males here share your opinion. Now please if you can, put your walls down. We're all hugs here. :p

Standing up for your opinions is also great, but if its only a minority picking at it while a majority is backing it, sometimes turning the other cheek is the better course of action.

You only turn the other cheek if you wanna get slapped. Wink

Wow... owned. I honestly see that as a poor sense of judgement. Why Palin? Even republicans have to agree that there are more qualified WOMEN for the job. I understand picking a woman to undercut Obama, but she could have at least been more qualified for the role of VP or even CiC. My guess is, he just wanted a family-oriented woman that would have the image he wanted. Basically he wanted a female republican Obama. That's how I feel.

Which is why I thanked Rawr for pointing out how many of you found it sexist that McCain picked Palin Smile

My post was just a reiteration.

I wanna bring up Palin's daughter though. Should we discount Palin's credentials because of her daughter? I understand family values and the 'lolabstinenceprogram' and while that should have an effect on christians, should it really affect others? I guess even in the public eye it can be seen as hypocrisy no matter what, but I thought everyone else liked to base their facts off of her experience as a leader rather than how she runs her household.

Wellll....as a former teenaged hellion I can say that she was gonna do what she was gonna do...but from personal experience I can also say it hinges on what your parents instill in you in the first place. I had plenty of friends who didn't fool around or do anything they shouldn't--mostly because their parents were so overly involved in their life. At the very least, between that and her decision to run despite the needs of her Down's Syndrome baby, it shows where her priorities lie: in her career before family. So those who find the family values to be a huge factor, have to take it for what they will.
You'll have to list her "credentials" first and then we can debate them. Being mayor of a town with less than 6000 people isn't a huge responsibility and she did that for 6 years, and then she became governor of Alaska and has been in office for less than 2 years.
How can American politics be this complex and you still ended up with GWB for two terms?

This.

EDIT: Isn't something about their non-sequential voting?
Al Gore had more votes, yet by American voting rules GWB wins.. for..some reason.

As Mark Twain is sometimes misquoted, "If voting actually made a difference, they'd never let us do it."

Damn.. I saw an awesome video on Attack of the Show yesterday of McCain checking out Palin while she was talking to the crowd and they dubbed his thoughts in the video.. can't find it anywhere...

It was hilarious, cookies for whoever can find it for me.
(From youtube since it was on the "Around the Net" segment on AoTS)

He rode on the coattails of his father, and when you have ignorance vote, you get GWB. Plus I was 11 and 15 at the time of both elections. :/

Somehow this answered my question perfectly.

Governors can control the National Guard for emergency relief, and riot control. As far as being deployed for defense, Palin had no control over anything.

I'm still trying to figure out something though.  We seem to be heading towards electing a person that has accomplished nothing with any position he's ever held, except to move on to another position... and to write two books... about himself... solely because he is charismatic... and tells you what you want to hear... why?

we already did that in 2000 when the supreme court gave the election to that smug dbag that never did anything his daddy didnt get him

at least obama knows what working class folks actually are? not mccains version of middle class as 'those making less than 5 million a year'

Holly Wrote:
"just because you spent all your money on stuff you dont need" do you have any idea how insulting that is? Any concept at all? I mean, I knew before that Republicans had no concept of the lower class struggle, but seriously.

+1 rep for Rawrmander and Ricky for that video. I actually almost spit Pepsi on my screen on one part. It was the first thing I watched this morning. God I needed that.

changing leaders in the middle of a conflict (whether the public supported it or not) usually isn't viewed favorably by the people.

I'm almost afraid to join in this topic, my head will get bitten off...

That video had me and my friends HOWLING with laughter last night, thanks guys!

@Rooster I think all the head biting is over, actually.
