I got mine from a Tropicana contest. In fact I ended up with an entire Xbox 360 package from that contest and gave it to my brother only to have it RROD after only 3 or 4 months.

I'm more of a PC gamer anyways and online is free there.

If I've already paid for Gold, can I use those codes to tack a few extra days onto my subscription?

Nah they only work if your account is in the Silver status, and your account stays Silver it just allows you to play online.
