Okay... first of all, I know how to turn it off with the controller and the On/Off button on the back of the console. However, the front has a non-button thing that lets me turn it on (flush with the front). However, pressing it does not seem to turn off the system. Am I doing it wrong?
I'm too lazy to google it or find my user manual.
Are you referring to the little button you have to hold down? Until it beeps or something...?
Yeah, if you want to shut it off using the front of the PS3 you just hold your finger on it for about 5 seconds or so. I rarely shut it off like that though as I mostly just use the controller. Color me lazy.

LMX and Mana are both right, you just have to hold it until it beeps at you.
Ahhh, that's why... I'm impatient. 5 seconds is 4.5 seconds too long to have to push an off button.
i wish the eject had a 5 second wait. i learned that the hard way while playing persona 3. i decided to dust off the ps3 while in a long ass battle and my palm barely touched the eject button and it just spit out the disc instantly. i lost a good 2 hours. i dont think i ever put the game back in again.
Wait, ejecting the disc doesn't result in a "Please insert disc" prompt? LAMESAUCE.
I've accidentally ejected a game myself. I don't remember what happened though.

What do you use to dust it off? I use the microfiber cloth that came with my HDTV (its like the material used to clean glasses lenses), and even if its on, when I touch it with the cloth nothing happens. its weird, I dunno why it doesnt sense the cloth
