I'm just not sure where to look and what for. Properly, anyway. My budget is 900 USD and below. Although if I could get something ideal for, say, 80 bucks more, I'm cool with it.

I'm not into gaming, so that's out. I just want a machine that I could do some programming on, creative stuff. Not sure what else I can say. I apologize for being so vague, this is just the first time I've looked at stuff off of the Mac platform, so I'm lost.

Any and all constructive help is appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance.

Not to be nit-picky, but I'd like to emphasize the "read before posting" remark here.

I wish I could be of more assistance, but I've go no idea what you can get for your dollar, computer wise

joker's usually got the best advice here
I'm a big fan of "get what you need, and not too much more" when it comes to computers.

Can you tell me more about how you'll be using it? For instance, if you will be carrying it around everywhere, I will be recommending smaller models (for their light weight), but if you'll have it stationary most of the time, I'll recommend larger ones (for their better screen).

For my mobile programming/email/web browser, I went with a Acer Aspire One with 8GB SSD, 16GB SDHC storage, 9" screen, 1.5 GB RAM, and XP pro. It has a great keyboard but the touchpad leaves something to be desired. The SSD sucks compared to what they should be able to do, and is certainly the bottleneck. If you configure it correctly, it will be speedy (I have paging/indexing/etc all turned off, and small writes are all set to RAM and are lost when reboot unless I choose to save them).

I would also check out the Inspirion 9 from Dell, which was not here when I was shopping. The keyboard appears worse but better touchpad, and I would really be interested in how the SSD works.

Depending on the type of coding you want to do, and your experience with MonoDevelop, the Linux variations of both of those netbooks is great. I needed VS though so I changed the default OS (Linpus) to XP.

Bonus- Both of these laptops will only cost about half your budget, leaving you with spending cash.

Protip- Mobile DVD player cases fit these laptops perfectly.
I'll probably be stationary. Plus I like to see more stuff on my screen.

I'm going to check into the stuff you mentioned later on today.
^If you plan on taking it to school, save you're lower back the trouble and make sure to go small.
15" screen would be max, and that's already pushing it. (If you really want the big screen, you could always attach it to a monitor when possible. a.k.a stationary mode)

Otherwise if it's just stationary, a portable PC would be cheaper and better, rather then a laptop.
Not planning on taking it to school. They have PCs there that I can fuddle around with. d:
^I'm talking about when yo get to Uni/College xD
I don't think they allow laptops in High School. (They didn't in mine at least)
