Full Version: New "Media DS" on the Horizon

Last night, it was reportedly leaked that a new version of Nintendo DS is on the horizon.

Dubbed "Media DS" by reporters, the console, which is essentially a standard DS, will come with a built in camera and music playback. With Apple's iPhone sporting a digital camera, iPod, and new "App" functionality; it was presumed that Nintendo would counter iPhone's new-found gaming popularity.

Nintendo has had a history of releasing stripped-down, gaming-only consoles and handhelds, steering itself clear of the portable multimedia stance firmly held by companies such as Sony and Apple. It seems that, if true, Media DS will be a new path for the company to follow, if slightly contradictory.

It has yet to be confirmed whether or not this new device will be released outside of the Japan region, but judging from past enterprises, expect the worst...

Nintendo will deny it. But I want this to be true. So I can buy it and love it.
Do want.
Very cool, hopefully it will be worth the upgrade if it releases outside of Japan.

It better have more than 512MB of memory.

This. Also, if it has any memory, hopefully this means we could get NES, SNES, and especially GAME BOY games onto the DS, I'd totally be a whore over that.

Good move for Nintendo, let's hope it isn't half assed, 'cause it has the capacity to be brilliant.
Iwas so about to post this!

Im prety excited for it, I mean if they do a media based DS then i'd wait for that instead o f buying aDS now.. except for that Gold DS im still buying that.
That sounds really cool to be an all around handheld know that the gaming library is well established.
Can't say that I'd find any use for it. I want my DS to play DS games, no need for tons of functions.

*goes back to playing super monkey ball on cell phone*
yes finely nintendo starts puting these things on camaras a surprize though.. but it has to have at MINIMAL 4gbs at MINIMAL!....but then again people will laugh that the ds holds more memery then the wii...naa MINIMAL 4gbs....PLEASE.....or at least sd cards...
Pretty god damn awesome if this turns out to be true.
I'm meh on this.
Just like Joker, I use my DS to play DS games.

If I wanted a multimedia device I'd get a PSP or iPhone.
Same here, but I still think its a little nifty. If it does turn out to be true, as said. I don't really like multimedia devices in general, mostly because I panic at the thought of not having any phone juice because I spent too much time listening to music.

This.

I wonder if Nintendo will reveal this at their upcoming event. Hopefully so!
I think the "DSI" is a little bit of a joke. Nintendo is just using the same old hardware, minus gameboy advance BC, and adding a camera and an SD card reader. How many DS version does the consumer need before they ask for something that has a little more umph to it?
