Small question here, whats the point of creating an internal PS1/2 memory card on a 40GB?
The 40GB doesn't have any memory card/sd slots
Yeah, the PS1 games weren't built to work with the PS3 and thus can't save to the HDD the way that PS3 games do. The "virtual" memory card slot is read as if you are using a memory card for the PS1.
I think his point is that the 40GB model isn't backwards compatible.

So to answer your question: there is none, beyond backing up your old saves I guess...
I thought the 40GB was compatible with PS1 games, and I'm guessing they did the PS2 slotin case they figure out a way to emulate it later as a software release.

The real point is cost though. It's easier to include it on all models rather than to develop different OS's for the different models.
Yea, my question was because the 40GB has no BC, but yeah, maybe they're just lazy or, they have pans for emulation, or a firmware update if possible.
No, the saves are also used for PS1 games that can be downloaded from the PSN.
Yeah, I was gonna say... can't you download PSone games off the PSN. Because if not... RAGE. As I had already planned to download MGS1 and FF-VII asap.
You can download MGS1?

Lol, damn I already ordered it,like for the PS1, my friend is giving me his PS2 to play mgs1-3, since I have the 40GB. But you have to pay for it anyways so it doesn't matter, MGS1 collectors item I guess.
I have MGS1 on PSone. But I'll probably get it off the PSN anyway (when it goes up, if it isn't there already)
I haven't checked, and I can't really right now, I re-bought Twilight Princess so I've been playing that, but I ordered MGS1 for PSOne, can't wait for it, but I won't play it till I get Subsistence and MGS2, and then I'll do the whole marathon thing, chronological of coarse.
The first one is NOT on the U.S. PSN as far as I know but I believe it is on the Japanese PSN. The Japanese PSN has a ton of PS1 games.
Yea so I heard.
PSN will have a huge library just like XBLA and VC
