Ive been put in charge of making a list of rules for a SSBB tourney we are having. But i dont play SSBB and i want to make it fun. What are some good rules to have?
Im thinking 4 stock, FFA, 8 min time limit, no items
But i really dont know what stages would be neutral and what attacks are cheap or are used to stall.
Well all the cheap stages are obvious. You know, New Pork, 75m, Summit. All the ones with gimmicks will most likely be banned from tourney play (but there will be a few exceptions.
Your making a tourney? Well first you gotta decide what kinda tourney you want. There are Singles tourneys and doubles tourney. Of course there are no items, 3 stock, no time limit. If you wanna get in depth you can have rules against spamming and running away to stall for time if there was a time limit. And also use neutral stages like BF, Final Des., Smashville, ect.
Also should decide between having it be a Single Elimination or Double Elimination. Single Elim means that when a person loses, then they are out of the tournament. When you use Double Elim then it means that when a player loses they go to the "Losers Bracket" and get a second chance against other losing participants (in short, everyone gets a double chance).
As others have said. Singles or Doubles is a choice you'll need to make. What stages to ban. Items on or off. How deep you want to go in the rules is up to you. For example, do you want to ban DDD stages? (These are stages which DDD can spam his d-throw). Do you want to ban Ice Climbers Infinite? (Usually its limited to being used up until 300%). And the such.
Smash Back Room have created a list of recommended rules which are good for tournament runners who are in their beginning phases.
Will you be playing for money?
Oh, also if you are looking for a good tournament organizer, I'd recommend using Tio. Let me know if you want a link.
