Full Version: "Advanced Smash Bros 102" The Brawl Edition -  A beginning

Those who have been here long enough will be familar with this thread. Its basic intent was to introduce a more advanced form of Smash to the users of WiiLoaded. It covered Smash Bros. Melee, well this edition will be Smash Bros. Brawl and will be edited as the community evolves.

As of this point of time there are no "Advanced How-To-Play" tutorials out and I don't know if we'll see them. Really Brawl is a game you have to pick up and explore.

The Comprehensive Guide to AT's, Discoveries, and Glitches.

In the above thread you'll find a list of all the current known and explored discoveries in Brawl. Some are AT's some are just plain glitches either way, they are there. If you know of something that you think should be there, but isn't then by all means get in touch with Vyse (the current maintainer of the thread). He, like me, is an Aussie and should be happy to consider your input.

So far Brawl's progression has been up and down, it was pestered early on with many arguments about its inferior status compared to Melee. Which is unfair to Brawl, because it was never going to be Melee 2.0. Even though Melee is a superior game, Brawl still deserves a chance.

Below is the most recent Tier List for Brawl's characters.

Source

There is a thread elsewhere about this, but basically that is the Tier List. You guys can debate it as much as you want but that's how it is. If you want your character higher then you need to get out there and make your character place well in tournaments and continue to explore your character to find advantages that they possess. Otherwise get used to seeing characters stay where they are.

Before the Tier List was revealed for Brawl, a character by the name of Ankoku recorded tournament result data and would make rankings based off said results. They are as follows (These are the total rankings)

S Rank
1 Snake (58 top8, 52 top4, 2 top2, 35 wins, 630 pts)

Ankoku Wrote:
The math behind the list is as follows:
Base values are
1 for top eight
4 for top four
7 for second
10 for first
Base values are then multiplied by number of entrants and entry fee, then divided by 160. This helps account for larger tournaments being more relevant than smaller ones. If two characters are listed, both gain half the points. On that note, PLEASE ONLY PROVIDE MAINS. I don't care if you randomly picked Captain Falcon for a random game in your first round if you spent the rest of the tournament as Meta Knight.

If you want to contribute tournament results, please provide the following:
MAKE SURE IT WAS AT LEAST 13 PEOPLE IN THE TOURNAMENT
Number of entrants
Entry fee
Where it was (what state it was in, or something)
Top 8, with character main for each of the top 8
Link to tournament page or results page

TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM TWO MONTHS OR OLDER ARE NO LONGER COUNTED.

Those are the requirements for tournament results to be eligible, so if yours are eligible then by all means submit them to Ankoku if you so wish to. Here you will find the old rankings and here you will find the tournaments used.

Here you will find a character match-up chart. Its far too big to place here so I will spare you, but DEFINITELY check it out. It was made by IvanEva @ Smashboards, and he welcomes any put in this thread.

// Latest changes to chart (Oct 18th):
Ice Climbers = Squirtle
Metaknight > Zelda
Donkey Kong < Metaknight
Mr. Game & Watch < Metaknight
Diddy Kong > Sonic
Ivysaur < Sonic
Marth > Toon Link
Bowser << Samus
Link < Lucas
Falco > Mario
Ganondorf << Shiek
Marth = ROB

The Crisis of Meta Knight

Oh dear, boy has this awesome character stirred up trouble. He has recently been on the defensive as Smashers everywhere seem to be calling for him to be banned from competitive play. Many interesting points and counter points. If you are feeling brave then you can jump head first into the discussion here. You'll need a Smashboards account but otherwise, join in or post your opinions here.

My first poll is about this topic.

MLG Acquires Smashboards

That's right, after supporting competitive Smash for so long MLG has acquired Smashboards. You can read more here, first and foremost this represents a massive step for the community. At first it was uncertain that MLG would continue to support Smash but any misconceptions were cast aside when they opened their ladder. They have been posting a large amount of information as well.

MLG's Get Better Fast: Brawl Guide

The above link will take you to a section of MLG that will introduce you to Advanced Brawl and aid you in getting a better grasp on the skills you'll be encountering and probably will need to pick up. Read it as you will, its quite good.
