While not the pioneer of On-Demand television technology, BBC's iPlayer has certainly captured the attention of the public more than Channel 4oD or Sky Anytime in the UK. As a result, BBC have announced a newly modified iPlayer interface; making it suitable for use on Nintendo Wii. This comes after an iPhone-compatible iPlayer which was released a number of months ago by the BBC.
While I'd love to use iPlayer on both my Wii and iPod touch, it's only open to residents of the United Kingdom and being from Ireland, it's impossible for me to do so. Perhaps the biggest selling point of iPlayer is its ease of use. Unlike 4oD, which requires an installed P2P program, iPlayer content can be viewed and streamed directly from your web browser, making this a sensible move for the BBC.
However, I can't help but feel that this could have just as easily been done through a dedicated WiiWare application, but this should do just nicely!
