Secret of Evermore has nothing to do with the Mana series. The Mana series in Japan is known as Seiken Densetsu(read more here). Secret of Evermore was made in USA and only released to USA and UK. It is strongly believed that the Evermore PoS was released as a alternative to translating the epic masterpiece, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2).
According to Wikipedia, the reason for "Secret of" prefix is as follows:
"The "Secret of" prefix was tacked on shortly prior to the game's release. Until then, it was known simply as "Evermore." It was the marketing department's suggestion that the title be tweaked, perhaps to take advantage of those hoping that it was the sequel to Secret of Mana."

I liked the GBA one Sword of Mana but never beat it
GBA sword of mana was fun but with 4 players co-op CoM will be more fun
My mistake. I though it was tied somehow, all though very loosely, to the Mana series because of the title. I've only played SoEvermore for around 10 min noticed many similarities and blah blah blah. Short story is sorry about it.

Final Fantasy 3 for the DS will be 3D but CoM looks so cool
Its gonna be a very good game, I speak as a fan of the Mana series, and regardless of the no-3D graphics its gonna be fun.
I still remember the memories of playing Secret of Mana... good times...
the only reason i probably wouldnt want this game is the view u get to play the game in
Secret of Mana was amazing. I remember a couple friends and I plugging in the multi plug and the three of us taking on the Mana Beast... good times.
