has anyone heard any new information on this title? I heard about it being a launch title back at E3 2006 but I've heard nothing else about it since
Nothing. In fact I almost completely forgot about this game. Got lost in the hulla balloo of the rest.
It's safe to say it wont be a launch title, but I have seen a clip that lasted only about 12-15 seconds. It was short, but it looked pretty good.
I looked it up and the concept seems alright. They could make it work but at the same time they could really screw up what has the potential to be a good Wii game.
Been delayed with dates TBA.
As far as I know, the game has been delayed. I haven't heard much otherwise about the game, so I can assume that it isn't a launch title.
Darn. it looked so freakin' cool too. guess i'll have to wait for more information...

All the hoopla at Nintendo's conference may have been around Mario and Zelda, but as the dust settles on Nintendo's self-proclaimed "revolution day," we here at IGN have the chance to take a closer look at a few of the titles that may have only played a very minimal part to the media briefing. Along with some of the unsung heroes from today's presentation is Disaster: Day of Crisis, a title that's being published by Nintendo, developed by Monolith, and is exclusive for the Nintendo Wii.

For those that haven't had a chance to check out our video coverage of the conference yet, Disaster: Day of Crisis seems to be an adventure/survival game focused around a character named Ray, as he attempts to survive mother nature's wrath in a visually stunning environment. It is man vs. nature, as players will have to use iron wit and quick reactions to escape the wrath of a catastrophic natural disaster. While there wasn't much to see in the teaser clips, the shots looked reminiscent of "The Day After Tomorrow" which hit theatres last year. In fact, in the grand scheme of Nintendo titles, Disaster: Day of Crisis is by far one of the most realistic of the line-up; something that Nintendo will certainly need in this next generation of gaming.

In addition to the short clip within the conference, Nintendo had a few facts to share with fans about Disaster: Day of Crisis for Wii. The following is the official game description straight from the Big N:

"Survive nature's most devastating catastrophes in Disaster: Day of Crisis, a panic-inducing survival game for Wii. In a devastatingly short period of time, an unprecedented wave of natural disasters has pummeled the United States. On top of this inexplicable series of disasters, a rouge special forces unit has taken advantage of the chaos and seized a nuclear weapon. Only Ray, a former member of an elite rescue task force, has decided to take a stand."

Along with the game's official description, Nintendo added that Disaster will also feature "Cutting-edge physics and gripping visuals" to re-create the sheer terror of major catastrophes. Details on specific gameplay elements were also added to the release, as Nintendo promises tons of action in varying styles of play:

"Players race a car down a mountain to escape a roaring pyroclastic flow, dodge toppling buildings during a devastating earthquake and swim for their lives in a raging flood. No matter what happens, fight to survive!"

It is unknown if Disaster: Day of Crisis will be playable tomorrow on the showroom floor, but you can be sure IGN will be giving you full hands-on impressions if it is. More on Disaster: day of Crisis as it develops.

IGN Wii recently interviewed Hirohide Sugiura, producer of Baten Kaitos Origins for GameCube and president of Japanese development studio Monolith Soft. Readers can click over to our GCN channel for a wealth of new details on Origins. But Sugiura offered a nugget or two about the company's forthcoming Wii game, Disaster: Day of Crisis. Here's what he had to say:

IGN Wii: Tell us a little about Disaster: Day of Crisis if you will. What's the story?
Hirohide Sugiura: The official announcement has not been made yet, so you may want to ask Nintendo regarding this. When you see it, you may feel that this something different from the types of games we have worked on before.

The main character in Disaster: Day of Crisis for Wii

IGN Wii: Monolith is known for RPGs. What motivated you to start a non-RPG product like Disaster? Or does it have more in common with the role-playing genre than we realize?

Hirohide Sugiura: I think it is only because our company started with RPGs, but we are always examining various ideas and various possibilities. Disaster is one of them. But, it does not mean that we have changed direction. We are also developing an RPG game separately. Please wait for detailed information about Disaster to be disclosed in the future.

IGN Wii: With E3 gone and passed, when can we expect more info on the game? When can we see it in action?

Hirohide Sugiura: The development of the title is reaching to its climax, so I think you can see this some time in the near future. Please ask Nintendo for the timing when it can be revealed.

IGN: Games like Baten Kaitos and Day of Crisis seem to add a more adult feel to Nintendo consoles that are often not seen. Why are mature games such an oddity for the Big N? Do you find that the adult nature of your games add to their success, or hinder them?

Hirohide Sugiura: I do not think Nintendo is not making games for adults. I think Nintendo is creating many new projects and opening up new markets. I believe Disaster falls within this category.

Also, we are not really comfortable when we are considered a developer who develops games only for adults. We do not think we should deny our unique characteristics, but we believe this is an age where we have to pursue a variety of possibilities. I hope you are looking forward to our future announcements as much as we are making them.
