Many people rate Zelda: Ocarina of Time as one of the greatest games ever made, and by far the best Zelda game ever made. To such a degree that it's direct sequel often gets pushed aside somewhat.
When I first played Ocarina I loved the game. It was fantastic, almost flawless. I remember that my brother had it for his N64 and I would actually wake up at 6 AM just to get some play time in. I played Wind Waker next, and I thought that too was an amazing game (I say that about all the Zelda games). Not sure that it topped Ocarina though. Then finally I got to play Majora's Mask. My conclusion is that, while it's close, MM is a better game.
Which makes me beg the question, was Ocarina really the greatest, or was it just that the transition from 2D to 3D worked so amazingly well that anything afterwards is destined to fall behind in comparison?
Majora's Mask was a much darker game, and it had less in the way of core gameplay (having just 4 dungeons). However it was also quite revolutionary for the use of the three day time system, and the ability to transform as well as other things. The real fun for me was in the sidequests though, they added so much more to the game. I felt the characters were better, as you got to know them more during the three day period as you directly affected their lives over that time. All in all there was so much more depth, and the game was very clever and a lot of fun to play.
So anybody agree with me on this?
