Xbox Gazette was lucky enough to have a chit chat with the very pretty Ubisoft Montreal producer, Jade Raymond and the even more beautiful game being developed at the Ubisoft Montreal studios, Assassin's Creed (Xbox360, PS3).

In the interview, Jade talks us through the inspiration behind AC, the game's principles, gameplay, movements, the crowd AI, Altair and his missing finger, and tons more. Here are a few tidbits from the massive interview:

Principle/s of Assassin's Creed: Two words (according to AC's creative director): "organic design." Meaning, all the game elements should combine to work as a whole without one aspect dominating over the others. Jade also says that the team focused on crowd and freedom of movement to bring us a new kind of gameplay.

On the whole crowd AI thing: The Crowd (yep, with a big C, that's how important the crowd is) was designed as "a living and breathing obstacle that you can influence though your...actions," To say that their team 'really worked on the crowd' would be an understatement because according to Jade, they've "put a massive amount of engineering effort in realizing an AI system that makes a large medieval town come alive."

Who is Altair?: Let's hear this one straight from Jade, shall we? "Altair is a disgraced Master Assassin sent to kill nine men in order to end the Third Crusade...players will experience his re-induction into the order, his rise through the ranks of the Assassin Brotherhood. His full name is Altair Ibn'La-Ahad which roughly translates into "Altair, Son of None."

Altair was commissioned to put an end to the Third Crusade by hunting down the instigators of conflict. Now, the clincher is that Altair's chosen method of doing this is by murdering immoral individuals, which naturally does not bode well with the city's authorities. However, well into achieving this mission, he discovers that that the Crusades themselves are only a front for an even bigger conflict in which he plays an important role for its resolution.

Weapons: Altair will use both melee and short-range weapons, one of which is the blade that Jade won't divulge any details on other than its mythology. And according to this myth, every Assassin gets a spring-loaded knife during their violent initiation ceremony where the neophyte's ring finger is cut off and replaced by this blade (that seems too important for Jade to even talk about)!

Oh, and just so you don't get your hopes up, Jade says (with conviction, we must say) that nope, Assassin's Creed will not support nor have any multiplayer or coop modes. Like that's gonna stop us from wanting the game right? Anyway, the interview touches on a LOT more stuff, so if you wanna read all about it, simply click on the read link below.

Definately should read the full interview if you're interested. Looking at her responses and some of the images make you think there is some type of modern connection to the game, such as a continuation of this Assassin Brotherhood in todays world.

Yeah, they mention in a few articles that when Altair dies, the surrounding area fogs out and reappears as the ceiling to a modern operating room (through the perspective of Altair, FPS like).
Mmm this game is going to be amazing, can hardly wait to try it out.

I'm glad we feel the same on this. I think this is going to be one of the best games on the PS3, as it's going to redefine the way AI is used and it will be used in the future.

yeh. very 12 monkeys-ish. i wish the story line had remained a little more historically accurate though. it would have been the first of its kind. it could have been the pioneer of new "WWII" games.

It is fairly historically accurate. And how would it pioneer new "WWII" games?

I think he's just saying that since so many people are making WWII games, it would create a new time era to use instead of WWII all the time. And yeah, it looks amazing.

Yeah but I don't think any era will ever be as played out as WWII.
And the era of the Crusades is more replaced by medieval fantasy, so it's already around.

medieval fantasy isnt the same as having a historically accurate medieval game. every level in Call of Duty 2 actually took place. (not saying every WWII game was historically accurate, but i lean towards/prefer those titles more) im also a war buff so i enjoyed that game. when i heard about AC's story going 12 monkeys, it was very disappointing. still looking forward to the gameplay more so than the storyline unfortunately.

I'd much rather have a 12 monkeys-esque game than anything that's historically accurate.
Although I do feel that we are lacking a historically accurate medieval game. Even atleast one would be cool, atleast if it was from the point of someone that could do something and not a peasant.
