Looks a lot like the MLB SlugFest games Midway used to make in their way-over-the-top arcadey sports games (NFL Blitz, NHL Hitz, etc.) Also I hope everyone realizes that those are NOT Wii screenshots.
the best baseball game ever was ken griffey jr.'s slugfest for 64... hopefully this game will be alot like that

Wrong, it's Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB on the SNES, despite not having the MLBPA. By far the best mixture of serious/arcade baseball action.

nah, almost all SNES/NES sports game sucked... with a few exceptions *cough*NBA Jam*cough*

But any word on this game being online?
Someone's a 3-d whore, lol. The SNES had some of the best sports games if you grew up in the era. EA's NBA Live and NHL series (best basketball and hockey games ever respectivey), Ken Griffey Presents (best baseball game), Tecmo Super Bowl series, FIFA, NBA Jam (TE), Super Tennis, and WWF Royal Rumble/Raw all compete for tops in their sports imo. That third dimension complicates things and gets in the way. Toungue
Game Features

2K Sports, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today features for The BIGS™, the larger-than-life Major League Baseball® licensed title coming out this summer. The BIGS delivers a unique pick-up-and play baseball video game experience driven by quick reflex timing and smart power-up strategies, with highlight reel moments on every play.

“With The BIGS, we want to take the baseball genre to new heights and redefine what a baseball video game can be,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. “The BIGS has the fast learning curve of an arcade game coupled with deep play mechanics, amazing visuals, and hero-like presentation of real MLB® players that will keep gamers coming back for more. The BIGS will showcase dramatic highlight reel moments at every at-bat, creating a truly epic baseball title.”

Fans will redefine the baseball highlight reel by performing dramatic wall grabs, spectacular diving plays, and epic homeruns. Unique and intuitive gameplay controls deliver a new baseball experience, while advanced power-up mechanics add exciting depth with each turn. Turbo gameplay raises the action bar to new heights, and culminates in the ultimate batter pitcher power-up duel, where either the pitcher’s Big Heat will be the turning point, or the batter’s Power Blast will be the explosive end to the game. In The BIGS, every play is a big play.

In The BIGS, each MLB player has been individualized to emphasize their extraordinary athletic attributes. The development team paid great attention to detail to portray a player’s face and physical characteristics so baseball fans will easily recognize their favorite players. To deliver the authentic MLB atmosphere, stadium landmarks have been stylized to highlight the unique architecture of each MLB ballpark. Whether it’s the glove at San Francisco’s AT&T Park resized to mammoth proportions or the left field wall in Boston’s Fenway Park made into a real “Green Monster,” gamers will be in awe at the grandeur of each stadium in The BIGS.

Oh holy crap. I hope they don't turn the stadiums into a Mario Golf like atmosphere. I can see it now, "shallow pop fly hit in fenway to left field, back goes Manny, oh noes, manny is eaten by the green monster... but wait, the monster can't handle him, he's too fat. And manny is hworked out onto left field amidst a pile of cleats and baseball caps."

Just leave the stadiums alone.

lol
That made me laugh!
I think since its not a first party game that the stadiums will not be like that....

Yeah, I can see something crazy like that happening though. Leave it to Nintendo. Some of you may call me crazy but my favorite baseball game was on the NES and the name is escaping me at the moment. I also liked Roger Clemen's Baseball with the way you could slide into the bases and control the slide when the view changed. I haven't played a baseball game in years because I don't like most of them.

Yeah, it was a Roger Clemon's NES game (Roger Clemon's MVP Baseball??). I remember playing it as a youngster at a friends house. Pretty cool.

Yes, nintendo is not developing the game, but I hope they don't include anything that completely takes away from realizsm. Power-ups are one thing, but monsters are another. Leave the MLB feel in the game. On a side note, I recall playing an arcade game similar to Ken Griffey Jr. Present's MLB. It was pretty kickass. But if they are going to use the wii-mote, I can't stress enough the importance of 1:1 motion.

Based on what we played, The Bigs is shaping up to be a good fit for the Wii. The control scheme is coming along well, and though it could use a bit of tightening up in a few places, it appears to be well on its way toward offering the responsiveness you'd want. The visuals may not be quite as shiny as in the other console versions, but they're certainly not ugly. Wii owners looking to graduate from Wii Sports baseball will want to keep an eye out for The Bigs when it ships for the Wii this summer. Look for more on the game in the coming weeks.

no real 1:1 motion, sad...
IGN Review 7/10 decent

Quote:
The Bigs isn’t a bad experience on Wii. In fact, it’s exactly as we’ve rated it: “Decent.” There are a few serious issues within the design, such as a laggy swing recognition and some wonky, forced fielding motion controls, but it’s still a respectable MLB experience for Wii gamers, and a solid first effort from 2K Sports on Nintendo’s new system. There’s definitely enough of a true MLB feel in the game to attract baseball fans, and as being part of that target audience a few of us in IGN LA have had fun ripping through games and powering up players. The fact still remains, however, that The Bigs has issues, and while those issues can certainly be overlooked by sports junkies or arcade addict MLB fans, they’re still there. The Bigs is generally a fun experience, but is extremely shallow. Add in the lack of online (something available in the other versions of the games) and you’ll really start to feel just how short-lived the “lasting appeal” turns out to be. The game can be fun, but the entertainment value may wear off by this year’s All Star Game, and that’s not a ton of bang for your buck. Whether you’re a sports nut or not, we suggest a rental before purchase, as The Bigs is very hit and miss.
