Ideally, we would have no 3rd party characters besides Snake and the rest would all be Nintendo. But no, I see fans crying if Snake were the only 3rd party character.
Besides that fact that Sakurai said there will be 1 or 2 more after Snake, I would have guessed Snake was the only 3rd party. I really want Sakurai to plot twist everyone and say NEWCOMER: KEFKA.

Besides Sakurai already said he won't include characters who originated in manga, like Goku did.
Snake ,Megaman, and Sonic are a good set of 3rd party characters to be in Brawl. if Sakurai increased the number what other characters would you like to see?

As for Metroid I agree. Make Ridley playable, have Metroid's and Dark Samus as Assist Trophies and feature Meta-Ridley as a Giga Bowser styled boss fight.
What if Ridley's FS was to turn into Meta-Ridley?
Nah, Ridley's FS would be better if he did that move from Metroid Prime where he takes to the sky, flies over the arena and fires missles/drops bombs all over the place then lands again. Of course, he could transform into Meta-Ridley and do this, since it is his Meta-Ridley form that uses this style of attack.
i was thinking it i'd be cool if all the villians of Smash were to be final bosses in 1P mode, and they'd have a "giga" form, which could also be their FS.
But if all the villains had a giga form then it would just be repetitive.
O that'd be boring.. I'd like to see a Giant Mario VS Giga Bowser battle. Or A Tiny Mario VS A Giga Bowser battle..
