whenever you see an update. at the top left of the title is an icon. if you were to right-click and do save picture as, you'll see the default name with the number included. for example the Smash icon would be seen as "world_b_01"
With the addition of the Picto Chat stage, I think it's pretty possible that we could be seeing more original content that doesn't neccesarily have to draw from a franchise. This could even go so far to mean original playable characters created by the Brawl team, though I highly doubt it.
Still, I think it leaves open for the possibility that there could be no Animal Crossing character at all, as it doesnt seem like stages have to correlate with playable charcters so much so as to have a DS themed character for the Picto Chat stage or such.
Its not as though Final Destination or Battleground were attached to any franchise beyond Smash Brothers. So, I think anyone hoping for characters just because there's stages set up for them, may be left in dissapointment, not to say there wont be any such characters.
Either way, with all the original content going into the adventure mode, Im sure those with access to any sort of "action replay/game genie" device will have fun playing as any of the Subspace Emissary NPCs.

No doubt there will be more original content for the game. There could be logos that are extra like the DS one, but the Animal Crossing one has better chances for a character since it is an actual game. And a character from that franchise could really work and be unique. Animal crossing has a stage of course, music,an item, and logo. All valid points that a playable character is very likely.
Final Destination and Battleground were Smash created stages, so they didn't need a character to represent it because it represented the whole game. The same with items. The Banana was given the smash logo, why not the Mario logo since it stems from Mario Kart.

Don't write off an AC character option yet and like I said before DS could turn out something like Mr. G & W, only weirder. That I doubt though.

Either way, Id like it better to have something like Diskun than Game and Watch, for whatever reason.

He has to be in it, he's DK's main enemy and I doubt Sakurai would stop with just Diddy for a new rep.

In way he has, but that doesn't mean G&W has got the bit. There is room for more than one wacky character in Brawl. For some reason I doubt Diskun would be in the game. Takamaru has a chance and Ridley without a doubt will be in.

I highly doubts Jigglypuff will go or any of the original 12 for that matter. Jiggs is the popular Japan PKMN. I hope C. Falcon is shown next for the vets.

Because they are revealing the starter vets first. That theory still holds true until proven wrong. And all that's left to reveal are Ness, C. Falcon, & Sheik. It doesn't sound like a lot but who know how long it will take. Although we haven't had a vet reveal in a while.
Either way..Jigglypuff would probably come back..for no reason.
Vets remaing: Luigi, C. Falcon, Ganon, Falco, Sheik, Jiggs, Mew2, G&W, Marth, and hopefully Roy. that'll take months, unlesss Sakurai does multiple characters updates. he did it twice before *crosses fiingers*
