Zi Corp. has announced that they will be working with Nintendo to develop their text input software, eZiText, into the Wii.
If you remember back when Nintendo was registering trademarks for almost every word that had something to do with Wii, there was an odd entry of !!M. Speculation was that this would become an instant messaging service and this could very well become the Wii's IM system. However it happens, it should help players communicate over online games and in the Mii network.

Zi Corp are responsible for making text prediction for mobile/cell phone sms's. So my assumption is an on-screen 1-9 style thingy.

I take that back. Its not worth it. Because, we see the PS3 and the 360 with VoIP. Makes no sense to take a step back and use point and click text messaging format. Its just silly.
That's true, but the Wii doesn't have a headset in development. I'll take what I can get.
That's just it though, the Wii SHOULD have a headset/mic in development. For those online multi-player games down the road, its practically required.
I gotta tell ya, playing Gears of War with friends would royally SUCK if we weren't able to communicate via our headset/mics.

Exactly. All those coool lil add ons are great, but if I could remember correctly... Nivtnedo was just for gaming. I know they want to bring in the masses, but some of that stuff just doesnt seem needed.

More than likely yes because in the IGN video they showed how you could send to notes to people by using either a cell phone format or a keyboard one. All you do is point to the letter you want.

It may not seem needed to you but it just extras that's nice to have for people who want to use them and most of Wiis extras are only on Wii so, that's another point.
