Was looking at the GameSpy screenshots for TP today, and got really really pissed off. The shots uploaded on August 23rd are all at about or above 720p HD resolutions (measure by height, some are 4:3 aspect ratio, but the width is about 1280px, which is the width of 720p stuff), and don't look to be uprezzed. That's right, it looks like some of the test builds they were working on were in HD. And it looks sooo good. Very disappointing that they didn't include the ability to output to 720p (above which most tvs can't even display).
I'm sure it was adjusted for optimal viewing before they uploaded it to their site.
the problem with HD is the extra power needed to render 691200 pixels (for 720) instead of 307200 pixels (for 480). Developers have been complaining about not being able to use 1280p (or whatever it is) on the PS3 because it's too choppy.

its 1080p just so that you know
but you did say whatever...
There is talk of significant overheads on the GPU, and if nintendo wanted they could risk some fps for 720p output over component via firmware update (as microsoft has done with 1080p)
Darkdragon - I was thinking the same thing. It would be really wise of them to do, There is pretty much no reason to go higher than 720p. Most people don't realize, but your eyes can't even see the detail at a certain point. In order to actually see the detail in 1080p at the distance from your couch to the tv (let's say like 8 ft), you'd need like a 54 inch tv or greater. 720p is a reasonable output for most situations, and less than that on an HD tv is going to look kind of crappy in comparison.
I really hope Nintendo allows us the option.
