interesting find. That's exactly what the screenshot looks like.
I have a new theory on how "wolf howls" work. Take note of the three different faces on the start of the bars in the picutre. The nose points up in the first, straight in the second, and downwards the last. Clearly I believe you point the remote up, straihgt, down, for the howls to take affect. Sound logical?
I saw in IGN that you can umm.. make music out of grass, and a pretty good one too. That might be another option
he could be calling for help from other animals.
that sounds really cool. i really have no idea how it will be used though, but nintendo has a good use for it im sure.
There's a new video on ign put up today that shows the howling. Helps shed a little light on it.
just saw that vid you were talking about biggiesmalls. ya, it looks like that might be the substitute for the ocarina? what will normal Link use though?
we'll just have to wait and see
Looks like in the video he was playing the "song of healing" reminiscent to majoras mask. I replayed every zelda game out there in the last few weeks so pretty much all zelda things are stuck in my mind.
I don't know... Just cause the wolf can howl doesn't mean there won't be any other instruments.
another reason to get the game...

he has 'grass' instruments apparently.
but this wolf howling sounds cool.

whats the pitch for? you could change the pitch in OOT and MM but I Never knew what it was for....
In OoT and MM, it was just for fun. I think in TP, it's how you control what notes you play and ultimately what song you play.
the howling seems like a good alternative to the ocarina, but I'm not sure what he'd be able to do...I know that he's able to talk to the animals in wolf form, so maybe to call a certain species over?
as people have been saying, he uses grass in human form. grabs two and does that cool whistle sound in different pitches to call over animals; in one of the demos, it shows him calling over Epona, and then later on an owl. I'm not sure in TP what we could actually use this for other than calling them to help...
After seeing about the first hour and a half of twilight princess in action (courtesy of gamespot live) I have realized that the type of animal that is called over via grass is determined by the type of grass. You don't press buttons to bellow out a tune or anything its jutst a cinematic.
The howling thing seemed to transport Wolf Link to another realm where there was what looked a Twilight Spirit in wolf form that teaches him new stuff or gives hime hints.
While we're talking about music and melodies in Zelda, when that kid from the farm gets captured, did you notice that when Link plays that flute that summons the horse, Epona's Song played on it?
uh huh, it's so hard to not know that tune. I was so happy when I heard it ^^
Well as far as I know the ocarina doesn't play a part in this adventure but look at this picture...

Could we be howling different melodies to do certain events? Hmm...
Yea i saw a vid with the wolf howling. to another wolf . IT played that tune.. the one where you learn a new song.
The vid is at IGN
