I cannot think of a reason why this would happen
The file is downloaded
then hash checked with a hash from the server, if they are the same then the install starts
if not the hash is downloaded again
if it fails again file is downloaded again,
this process repeats untill a complete copy is recieved.
so download corruption is not an explaination,
Possibly the sensorbar get an energy spike and causes an overflow in the copying of the data to the BIOS flash and resulting in a bricked console, but that seems highly unlikely
Does Wii even use BIOS, I would assume it would use EFI being a PowerPC cpu
My wii shipped Friday, last week. There is no problems, although there is this one strange thing. Every once in ahwile the remote won't work and when ever I Push a botten during this time. The led light blinks. Also I got the Wii yesterday.
Currently I'm not online but I have a wireless router coming to me in the mail. When I connect does it automatically download this update without even asking you or do I have a choice to wait until a new update that won't brick my Wii?
I got the error, so I went to the Nintendo support site. It has that error in the error bank and tells you to call customer service as a solution, so they must have a plan of some kind...

But if you restart it you can still play games but not wC right?
Probably not, by bricked, it will flash the "BIOS" incorrectly, therefore causing the thing to not work correctly and give an error code.
I got this error message when I updated...but my games still work fine? What's the deal here?
I am to scared to go wifi how do I avoid getting the Update?

im pretty sure that means ur wiimote is running out of batteries.
@Cloud: I don't think you can. If I recall correctly, it updated automatically. I would recommend not accessing WiFi until the update of the firmware is fixed or replaced.

That's what I'm going to do, I'm scared the update will crash my Wii.

The Wii most likely uses a basic booting BIOS, and then an extended EEROM where the system software (firmware) runs off of. EFI is a specific technology designed by Intel, which is currently used in IA-64 processor server configurations, and the new Intel Macintoshes by Apple. The old PowerPC apple macintoshes used Openfirmware. EFI would not work with PowerPC. The BIOS for the Wii is probably a very simple proprietary BIOS to boot the firmware/DVD-ROM. BIOS is compatible with any chip as long as the desired build is compiled for the target CPU platform. All a BIOS is is a Basic Input/Output System.
i consider my self lucky, did an update (which takes forever) and everything came out fine. but if it didnt i would have been pissed cause they wouldnt have any wii's to replace it. at least i think.
I'm not having any problems here. I'm going just fine, baby!
I find that my Wii is perfect...but Wifi hasnt called me yet.
i updated my wii and i cant get online with it. but ill call nintendo one of these days to work that out.
Yea, if anything does happen Nintendo is to blame.
i don't think it's supposed to do that...
if you start getting a messege saying the system is having trouble communicating with the remote, it's likely batteries. i got that alot when batteries were next to dead.
something odd did happen today though. i was playing Red Steel and after the loading screen finished and went black to start the gameplay, nothing happened, like it froze. the game's new so i know it's not the disc. i tried to hit the power button on the remote but it wouldn't turn off. tried to hit the reset, but nothing. i tried the power button on the console but it didn't do anything either. had to end up holding the power button for 10-15 seconds before it shut off. possible the game just froze (possibility with all the glitches and jumps Red Steel's been doing) and the Wii just isn't really designed to reset during an issue, loading or gameplay?
the loading issues is really a 1 and 1 million thing. only case i read about it screwing up.
and i never had a game freeze on me yet.
