Uh oh.

Like everyone this person (known as wC) started downloading the Wii's updates from WiiConnect24 after bringing home their Wii. After the updates are done wC tries connecting again and the message "Error Code: 110213 There is a problem with the WiiConnect24 service. Please try again later" shows up.

Unlike most problems systems face at launch this one is a little unusual. Everyone winds up downloading the same firmware updates so it's strange that this Wii was messed up. I guess there must be something wrong with the system itself.

Simply put, updating a Wii bricked a Wii - QJ.net

I'm Scared..I knew getting a system at launch wasnt right.
Gah, we gotta find out whats wrong soon!
Yeah, but guess what? Nintendo has GREAT Customer Service Info, so even if this happens, they will probably replace it with a brand new one.
Please tell me that theres nothing wrong with my Wii! I went through so much to get it, and I love it so much!
I got an error today when I loaded Trauma Center in for the first time, said something about not able to read the disk, but advised me to eject and restart. I did exactly as it said, and it has worked ever since.

Cross my fingers mine doesn't break like this one!
wow the strange thing is THIS WAS ON THE FRICKING NEWS! jesus now im scared. (CNN showed this).. is the the equivalent to the burning of the discs with the 360's? i hope not.!
I am Scared. End of Discussion.
if u call nintendo and explain im sure everything will be fine. if u have to replace ur system just save ur mii's to ur wiimote and u should be fine.

Going to be hard for them to save Miis when the box won't boot.

Well, you do it as you go, before you have to do all the updating, and wind up bricking it.
YAY! Australia's Wii's at launch are being fix'd up before launch I think, the British ones definitely are.
I dont think I really want to go WIfi o.o......
Hmm, well, al long as its under warrenty.....
If it's under warranty, don't worry about wifi, you'll be fine. Although, I think I would be a little afraid, maybe the problem that bricked it is, that while the firmware was updating, it the internet disrupted, and it caused the Flash Memory to corrupt?

I take it that would cause it too, since that's what happens when you flash a BIOS.
Look at the bright side - if your Wii gets broken and they need to send you a free one, then perhaps you can ask for a new color? Smile
I'm rewatching E3 2006, and I really wished I had some of those cool games that are coming out next year, and a Wii.

Doubt they would send you a new color, but they might if you ask nicely.

Guys.. here is my reasoning for a bricked Wii.. Hear me out.

When you download the firmware you're using the net signal in your home via a router or a USB adapter.. When you hook up your Wii you want to have a strong connection not a weak one. If the connection were to lessen whilst you were download it.. you might encounter and issue by only receiving fragments of the update. Henceforth why the machine might be bricked. Nintendo should be working on another update to correct this.. as a counter.. for lack of better words.. Well that's my input. It would explain a lot.

that makes sense except i would think nintendo would be smart enough to not apply the update while it downloads. ..but who knows.. maybe they overlooked it somehow.

proper way to update would be download completely. check file for accuracy. apply update.

hopefully if this is the issue nintendo will be able to issue an update to make it work correctly.. or maybe issue the "startup disc" which was originally planned for the wii with a basic software install. so if you have this problem you could at least fix it at home.

People are downloading the update fragmented I suppose so when the machine installs the updates it's missing items it needs. As far as I know it doesn't apply and update all at once. The start up disc would probably work brilliantly on the other hand though.

Yeah.. well they will be smart about it. People just need to make sure that they have a decent net connection. I seriously think this would prevent a lot of the machines from getting bricked. Don't fear it too much though. I know a lot of people who have bought a Wii.. About 4 just in my family and some friends too and out of all of them there have not been any issues... and users all over Wiiloaded can attest to that as well.

Anywho.. hope this gives some people a better insight.
