I just recently got the update and for those who have it and don't know whats different or those just wondering about it here is the list of new features.

Channels

-Wii Shop Channel.
Although the Wii Shop Channel was already there with the update
you can now use the Wii Shop Channel.

Settings and Memory

-SD card saving
Although previously you could only save memory to an SD card after
filling the internal memory of your Wii. The update allows you to save
game saves and Channels onto and SD card.

-Country
You can now enter what country you are in under Wii settings.

-Wii Connect 24
Wii Connect 24 now works and you can turn it on and off.
Other

- When you go to the Wii menu instead of going directly to the
interface there is a brief little intro of the interface, not much but it
is adds flavor to the menu.

-
WARNING: If you have not downloaded this update I recommend you do so with caution. Some Wii have been experiencing problems after downloading the update.

Yeah, but if they brick your Wii, you get a new one! WOOT! Unlike PS3, if it's bricked, your done for.

but... the problem with a bricked Wii is your Wiiless. plus you may lose your Game saves.

Yeah, but you get a Wii back pretty quick, couldn't you save onto an external SD, oh wait, that's only after the update.

Ironic isn't it.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. But won't the ones that come out later, have these updates already fixed on them?

Like late shipments... i dunno they might have afew... but i doubt it will in the next few shipments ... maybe a few after that.

Nintendo is working on an update without errors for some Wii's. They also garanteed a better update service or pre-instal on the Pal and Japanese versions of the Wii. I have faith just update and if you are screwed...well yeah that's just the risdk you have to take, everyone is using Windows too...(read majority huh)

i updated partially knowing the threat and I was fine thank god

is there any way to avoid the crash

I updated on Sunday with my launch console, and luckily had no fatal errors or crashes while I updated. I think Nintendo took care of all that by now, because I havn't heard any word of systems bricking lately.

Maybe they have fixed it. If the guy tested it and it updated partially, without any problems, it has been fixed. But you can't have an update for an update?

The update isn't near as scary as it is made out to be. I attempted to update my Wii on launch day, and because of the server load plus my router not being on the "optimal" channel, it failed several times and I had to manually power off the Wii. However, this did not affect it in any way.

After setting my router to channel 11 I updated again, which worked very quick and I have had no problems.

What is the Update anyway?

The update downloaded when you connect to the internet for the first time. At the top of the page it shows you what is in update 1.
