Previous console Sims games have left us a little cold. There was something about those self-consciously kooky characters and their worthy-but-dull daily routines that made us think the entire series is much better suited to casual players on the PC, where the games rank among the all-time bestsellers. But MySims could be the one to change our opinion.

It’s clearly something completely different, and the simplified structure is designed from scratch, exclusively for Wii. The aim is to attract residents to your run-down town, kick out the people you don’t want there, and turn the place into a community that reflects your own personality.

MySims runs in 16:9 and 480p on Wi and moves at a steady framerate with only the occasional dip. The title employs an intentionally colorful, approachable look and style and worlds and characters are comprised of fewer polygons and less defined textures than we're seeing in most next-generation games. However, the title does not look sloppy or sub-par -- the visuals are clearly the result of an an art choice and not because of technical limitations.

Other than that, the creative world presented in MySims really is only limited by your imagination. We've only touched on a fraction of what's possible in the game and, as we've pointed out before, players are free to create their own houses as well as what's inside. Indeed, from what we've seen there's certainly a lot of scope for the player to do almost whatever they want, with the range of objects and shapes on offer enough to create almost anything without overwhelming the player with complete freedom.

We're also keeping our fingers crossed that EA will allow users to swap objects with each other online, so your masterpiece ends up in houses all over the world. After all, who wouldn't want a Megatron bed?
