It's very bizarre that the console that people were shooting each other over just a couple weeks ago is the one we keep running across while looking for the Wii. I've seen a few as well... would love to throw it on my credit card and flip it... but, I can't bring myself to do it, haha... I wouldn't want to be the ebay customer paying out the nose for it.
Update: Tried the next 6 closest GS/EB to the office, 5 said no, 1 said try back later.
I'll be heading to TRU around lunchtime... see if I have any luck (or at least get some definite idea on Sunday).
Oh, almost forgot... I've never done the camping out thing...
What are the best times to start (for a guy not wanting to actually spend the entire night)?
I figure Best Buy'll be the most packed, with Circuit City/TRU/Target, less so.
Any ideas?
ive never done it either. but i figure b/t 3 and 4am is plenty early, even for target...
i hope.
but then again, the target guy was telling everyone to come back sunday, so there will probably be a crap ton of ppl there. Toys R Us is where its at for me.

I've never done it, but i underestimated the Wii demand today, by actually finding a line at an EB before the UPS has even come, so i'm not risking anything Sunday.
My friend and i are going to be hanging out all day, so that night we might stop by before they close, get one final word from a manager or clerk in electronics, then go to a movie or something, and come back around 12 or 1 and check on the store...if we see anyone at all, we will park and get out the chairs we are bringing haha.
Sounds like a pretty fun evening, if you've got a buddy to bring... I'd usually bring my brother, but on black Friday, he walked into a KB Toys and just found one...
With Christmas approaching quickly, the search for a Wii just might get uglier and uglier in the next few weeks. Good luck to those of you going out sunday morning, I think I'm going to avoid the whole mess and just wait till it's more readily available.
Does anybody else think that it bodes well for the Wii that many of us have come across PS3s on our quest to find our console of choice? In my quest, it seems like a good number are picking up the Wii because the price is nice. I mean the people beyond just the gamers, the average joe consumer is what is going to drive the Wii into high sales. That means we'll likely see some great 3rd party games in the not too distant future.
I just registered to say Thank You to this thread.
I just went to the Gamestop near my work (Roseville, MN) at 11:35 am and as I was walking in, a FedEx truck pulled up. I went in the store and there was one guy in there looking at PS2 games. I looked around for a bit then the FedEx driver came in with the packages.
The clerk opened them up and they had received three Wiis, but he could only sell 1, he said the other two had to be held (he said something about replacements or I'm not sure, I was too excited). He asked me and the other guy if one of us wanted it and we looked at each other than I said, "I want it." The clerk said he'd flip a coin if we both wanted it, but the other guy said no.
So, after two weeks of waiting and searching, I finally got my Wii.
Called a couple gamestops... nothing in their shipments today... say it might be because of the weather yesterday (snowing in Dallas!).
Sigh.
Congrats TK_in_WI
Hopefully we'll see A LOT more messages like that.
As fun as this thread has been... I hope it becomes obsolete before Christmas.

Judging by your name, are you in Wisconsin? If so, that maybe what GameStop told me was true. I live in Madison, WI and they said there'd be a shipment on Friday.

I live near Menomonie, WI, but I work in Roseville. I just went there at the time that many people have said they get shipments and it worked out.
Gamestop.com took my pre-order. Claim to ship 12/18. Called customer service to confirm. Told me I can cancel order up until it ships. I have 30 days to return unopened box if I decide not to keep it for full refund -- no restock fee.

Return box? Haha. Talked to my friend in India last night. After explaining to him for 5 mins what the Wii can do he asked me to pick one up for him too. Wii is revolution. No doubt. Heading out to EB for 2:30pm UPS delivery. I predict huge lines at BB/Target Sat. night.
This is a great thread; I've been following it all week.
Sorry to bore, but this message turned out a lot longer than expected. Bear with me (or don't *shrugs* ).
So, on Wednesday, I asked the manager at EBgames about the Wii, and he said, "None today, none tomorrow, and that's as far as hubbalumph..." He kinda trailed off and stumbled through his words, as if he were tripping over what he was actually going to tell me. It sounded like a combination of "as far as I can say" and "as far as I know," which ended up sounding sorta like "as far as I can snow." Figuring I got more info from him than he wished to disclose, I left with the intention of returning Friday as early as I could (and checking back, depending when the shipment arrived).
Unfortunately for my Wii, I'm one of "those" people who doesn't skip class on a whim. In retrospect, perhaps I should have. So I call EBgames around noon today, and he said they got some in this morning and had already sold out. Blast!
So, I'm left with Sunday at Target, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart (all within a mile of each other, which is walking distance sans the blizzard). I'm hoping to do early-morning runs and camping if needed. One could argue I "need" a Wii more than others. More on that in a minute.
So, dejected, I call up Target just in case they're selling early for this weekend. Lady says they had some on Tuesday, but don't know when they'd have more. This sends me deeper, as I'm boggled: every day this week, I've been the first person at Target upon 8 AM opening. Apparently they stock during the day, too? Grr...
Thanks for sticking with me so far. Here's why I "need" a Wii:
I'm an RA in my hall, and as such am required to put on "programs" for the residents. I need one more program, and it's almost the end of the semester. Since finals are approaching, I figure maybe I could hold a Wii Sports tournament on the big-screen TV in the lounge. Perhaps there'll be free pizza, too -- but not if I don't get a Wii. That, my friends, is why I need one.
By the way, for those interested, I'm in Valparaiso, IN, (20 min. south of Lake Michigan), and it's been snowing here most of the day.
When I looked at the Gamestop.com listing the first time around it said "Ships Dec. 8th, 2006. I thought that was a good date. Surely enough time to get here before Christmas.
After coming back here to post then heading back to Gamestop.com, I see that it has been changed to a ship by date of Dec. 18th, 2006. With no guarantees of course. Sigh. I can't chance that.
Sorry about the so-so info.
It was still good info, especially if people are looking to be guaranteed they are getting on and they dont care exactly when they get it...but I know I want one REALLY bad and soon..hahaha
Thanks Audio

I'm like you. I
need one before Christmas. It just has to be under that tree

The EB a few miles away got 3 but they sold out as they arrived but at my Gamestop they were thinking they might get some via FedEx so there was about a line of 5 people waiting but FedEx had nothing. Also about the looking over PS3 thing i too have seen that i've seen 3 in stock at WalMart and today at Gamestop they had a few PS3's and nobody who walked or called into the place the whole few hours i was there was interested in anything but a Wii
I was --> <-- close to getting a Wii today...
Wife said "did you call TRU today?" I said, no why should I, they are hoarding them. She said to call anyway.
So I call a couple times and get a busy signal (imagine that). I wait and then call one more time and get through to a guy. Says "We've got one that was just returned. You have to beat a soccer mom here since she's on her way to get it."
I only live like a mile from TRU (I work from home), so I could win this race! I hop in the car and make it there in record time. He see me walk in and tells me she just bought it. Heck, she was still in line! I talked to her a little bit and she was actually in the store when it was returned! So it must have taken her a while to figure out she wanted it.
(the return story was that they got a PS3 instead, all of the games they returned were still sealed [I looked]).
Gamestop receives potentially two shipments. UPS comes daily. Fedex comes in the morning, but is not predicable. No deliveries on the weekend. My GS got in three Wii this morning via Fedex. Sold instantly.
UPS delivery dropped off 5+ remotes 10 mins before I got there. I bought three. A very nervous dude bought two. Wii shakes me thinks.
Nintendo Wii: Millions manufactured.
Me: 0
Yep, i might try Gamestop again for the hell of it tomorrow but after that im just relaxing and resting up for the long night ahead into Sunday morning
