Can the classic controler play anything else than VC games, or is that it?
good question
i'd like to know as well
I think there are rumors circulating that SSBB will possibly use the classic controller (or gamecube controller).
I think the main purpose of the classic controller is to give developers an option to use a normal controller rather than take advantage of the remote and nunchuck. If SSBB is made to use a classic controller, they it was most likely decided to do so to show developers it is in fact all right to make games that take advantage of the classic controller.
My only problem with this is that the controllers for the Wii are pretty complicated. Not the controls, but just the controllers themselves. We already have some games that use just the remote, some that use the remote and nunchuck, and then we'll add another type that just uses the classic controller. That can get a bit confusing and quite expensive.
I'm sure it's just as confusing as making a game that utilizes 8 processor cores on a new form of disc that won't have long load times or overwork the machine...
I'm not even sure if I can get the VC games or not here. I'll have to wait and find out. I might not even need to get them at all since I still have 4 old gamecube controllers around that I could use for SSMB when it comes out.

But the PS3 does all that for you. When parents are buying thier kids a game, chances are they don't know what games need what controllers and if their kids even have that controller (or let alone enough of them).
How upset would you be if you got a game like SSBB as a gift but the person who bought it didn't realize you had to buy another controller even though you already had 4? I know the Wii is all about being accessible and easy, but it's still pretty confusing for a lot of people, especially non gamers, granted they do get the hang of controls it pretty quickly. For instance, while trying to explain bowling to someone, it was as clear as day to me to tell them to hold the remote in front of them, use the d-pad to position themselves, tap the a button and then use the d-pad to turn themselves, hold the remote in front of you and hold down the B trigger, swing the remote back and then forward like a bowling ball and let of the B trigger when you want to let go of the ball.
To all of us, that's as plain as day, but to people that don't play games, that's confusing and intimidating. It's still pretty easy to pick up (and people do once they try it a few times), but that complicated process can scare people pretty easily.
And don 't get me wrong here, I'm a huge fan of the Wii, I just recognize it does come with some big problems like still having a lot of buttons and having 3 different controllers is a huge hassle.
Yeah, but if motion was used for EVERYTHING in a video game. do you know what that would be like?
the classic controller will probably be used in future games that dont seem fit for the wii mote (like a basketball game [IMO])
Well as for the basketball game, they have a hoops minigame in the Super Monkey Ball game so it's possible to do that too with the Wimote for shooting and the analog for controlling.
Any game that doesn't require the player to control the camera can easily be done with the remote and nunchuck. If the player is required to control the camera and move, that's where things start getting hairy. You could have the player use the d-pad for camera movement, but that just seems like it may be a little awkward to use.
Hmm..well, the Classic Controler can't play GC games?
it can play any VC and some Wii games. but it sucks so your better off using the wii remote or GCN controller if you have one.
I wish say like some games..er...Say a Tony Hawk game could use the Classic controller

It would be easier..but still fun with the wii-mote nonetheless.
It can play some Wii games? Wich ones?
Dragonball z budokai tenkaiichi 2 allows the option to use it instead of hte Wiimote... but then the game is just button mashing.. and SSBB.
I know Metal Slug Anthology has an option to use a Gamecube controller, will it let you use the Classic Controller too?
Meh, I may buy it, I may not, probobly only for SSBB
ISnt the GC controller for SSBB? The classic controller using it would be alright too. But I would be used to the GCN one.
